MLB Best Bets and Betting Picks for August 13
It's Sunday fun day here on the MLB Best Bets and I hope everyone had a nice weekend! No need to have the Sunday scaries today after a losing Saturday slate for me though as the process was done the right way sometimes the results just don't follow! Either way onto a new day in the MLB and its starting early so if you are getting bets in don't wait past 1pm ET as many games will be starting! For today's piece I'm diving into a 1st 5 innings run total, a pitching prop and a Money Line and I love all three wagers on the docket the same! Best of luck out there and enjoy that lazy Sunday watching baseball on the couch!

MLB Best Bets for August 13
New York Yankees at Miami Marlins
This matchup between the Yankees and Marlins is by far the lowest on the slate today and that's probably for good reason given the pitching matchup. Gerrit Cole will start for the Yankees with his 2.75 ERA and 1.04 WHIP and recently he has been mowing down the competition allowing just 14 earned runs over his last 46.2 innings pitched. I don't see him getting into too much trouble against a Miami team that has an implied run total of 3.4 for this game. The Marlins have struggled offensively lately too as they've scored just 16 runs over their last 5 games. Their saving grace to win today might be on the shoulders of their young pitcher Eury Perez who has shined this season with a 2.79 ERA and 1.12 WHIP and on top of that has 68 strikeouts on 58 innings pitched. I trust these two pitchers to keep the scoring down but not the bullpens though so I will be wagering on the under for the 1st 5 innings in this one today.
Pick: Yankees & Marlins 1st 5 Innings Under 4 Runs (-140 on BetRivers)
Cleveland Guardians at Tampa Bay Rays
We've reached the final game of the series between the Guardians and Rays this afternoon and what a couple of games it has been so far as 28 total runs were scored and there was late game drama in both of them! I see an offensive slow down today though at least for the Guardians as Zach Eflin takes the mound for the Rays as he has been excellent this season. His ERA sits at 3.34 which is good but his WHIP of 0.97 is even more impressive and for a Cleveland team that scores just 4.09 runs per game, the 5th lowest mark in the MLB they might not put up a huge fight. Not looking at strikeouts here though as the Guardians are a disclipend team and don't swing and miss much but I do think Eflin can go deep into this game. His line sits at 17.5 outs to be recorded which means he will need to pitch 6 innings and that's something he has done in 3 of his last 4 starts, I think he does just that again today against Cleveland.
Pick: Zach Eflin Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-130 on BetMGM)
Minnesota Twins at Philadelphia Phillies
Last wager of the weekend for me here as the Twins visit the Phillies! The Twins have been sliding for a couple weeks now and their pitching has fallen off slightly with the offense not pulling their weight. This has led to the Twins dropping 4 of their last 5 games and many of those weren't all that close. They are 28-34 on the road this season too and will face off against a Philadelphia team that is red hot with 10 wins in the last 13 games and the offense has scored over 5 runs per game during that stretch. Given these trends I was surprised when the Phillies were just -115 or in that neighborhood to win today and that seems like tremendous value. They won't have the better of the starting pitching matchup as Sonny Gray goes for the Twins but that has hardly mattered for the Phils so give me them to win straight up this afternoon.
Pick: Philadelphia Phillies Money Line (-115 on DraftKings)
