Best MLB Stolen Base Picks Today:
Locking in the best stolen base predictions means finding the absolute perfect storm of a high-on-base runner and a weak battery. We’ve got an interesting group of notable base-stealers at shorter odds, so here are our top two MLB stolen base picks today for Wednesday, August 19:
Favorite Bets:
CJ Abrams, Washington Nationals (+259)
Abrams continues to be the heart and soul of this Nationals team post-trade deadline, at least until his partner-in-crime, James Wood, returns from the IL. We’ll lean on him against Rangers right-hander Kumar Rocker, who has allowed 11 stolen bases on the season and struggles mightily against southpaws, allowing them to post a .372 wOBA this season. Abrams himself has a .409 wOBA against righties and has three steals over his last eight games. Rangers catchers have just a 20.5-percent caught-stealing rate so look for Abrams to continue his aggressiveness on the bases.
Luke Keaschall, Minnesota Twins (+439)
We’re going a little deeper here today as this Twins/Braves game could line up really well for stolen bases. We’re leaning on the Twins side here with AJ Smith-Shawver stepping in to make the start for Atlanta. The right-hander has had his issues with both lefties and righties, so while I can give a look to the switch-hitting Brooks Lee, I’m going to lock down Keaschall and his .358 OBP and 9.5-percent walk rate. Braves catcher Drake Baldwin has been terrible at throwing out base-runners, posting a dismal nine-percent caught-stealing rate on 33 attempts. Let’s lock in the long odds today.
