Best MLB Stolen Base Picks Today:
Locking in the best stolen base predictions means finding the absolute perfect storm of a high-on-base runner and a weak battery. We’ve got an interesting group of notable base-stealers at shorter odds, so here are our top two MLB stolen base picks today for Tuesday, August 18:
Favorite Bets:
David Hamilton, Milwaukee Brewers (+375) – We’re rooting for some lefty-on-lefty crime here as the Mariners southpaw has struggled against same-handed hitting this season and Seattle’s backstops have posted a below-average 24.6-percent caught-stealing rate. Cal Raleigh alone is just 17-percent. Hamilton has outstanding sprint speed, and while his overall numbers against lefties aren’t great, finding his way on-base does seem like it’s in the cards here, and once he’s there, he’s taking a base for us.
Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers (+383) – We’re going to throw a little bit of risk out here, considering there isn’t typically a whole lot of need to steal bases when hitting in Colorado, but when the numbers line up for you, you have to take a shot, especially on a day like today where Vegas isn’t expecting a ton of stolen bases. Ohtani has hit safely in three straight and in five of his last six. He crushes righties, and Ryan Feltner isn’t exactly holding runners close to the bag. Add to it the Rockies catchers combining for just a 15-percent caught-stealing rate, and we’ve got optimal conditions here.
