🔥 Best Matchups for Home Runs Today, 9/9: Ballpark Factors & Weather Impact

Prior to the transition day tomorrow, we have four afternoon games in California/Seattle, so before locking in any MLB home run picks, it’s all about our MLB weather report. Once we know what’s going on with wind, humidity, and more, we can start breaking down pitchers. That means righty/lefty splits, slugging and ISO allowed, pitch mixes, and more.

As for hitters, it’s much the same metrics, which include others like barrel rates, hard-hit rates, average exit velocities, and more. Speaking of “more,” we also have to consider bullpens, as we can’t expect only starters to allow MLB home run picks to cash. After adding it all up, here’s why we’ve come up with our top three targets.

Ben Rice (+257)

He’s back, back again - Tomoyuki Sugano! He’s back on the mound tonight, and while it’s not at Coors Field, Yankee Stadium is quite friendly to dingers as well. We also can’t forget that it’s the Colorado Rockies bullpen coming in behind him, and oh yeah - Aaron Judge is back! So, how could we NOT start with Rockies vs. Yankees with our top MLB home run picks today?

When it comes to Sugano, both sides of the plate go yard, and frankly, New York could use tonight to call up some minor league guys. The Rockies righty has a .476 slugging allowed to righties and .576 to lefties. As much as we want to take Aaron Judge (he has terrible odds, by the way), we’re going to stick with southpaws, as they also have a whopping .301 ISO against Sugano.

Luis Garcia, Jr. is the clear pivot here, but we’re leading off our best MLB home run picks today with Ben Rice hitting a HR (28%, so +257, at Novig). 

Max Muncy (+400)

We’re going coast-to-coast and from one monster sports market to the other by going from the Bronx to LA. It was Dodgers catcher Will Smith who smashed a round-tripper for us last night, and now their star-studded lineup gets to face Rhett Lowder. Interestingly enough, Smith may not even be in the lineup at all to cash more MLB home run picks!

That’s with Lowder not being a lefty, but what he does do is allow massive power to lefties at the plate. When facing the Dodgers, that’s about as rough as it gets - well, as great as it gets for us. Much like taking Aaron Judge in his return is extremely tempting, the same could be said for Shohei Ohtani finally hitting another one after his brief time out of the lineup.

Mickey Gasper (+575)

This final spot should be reserved for Diamondbacks vs. Royals, even with these weird games with no runs until late recently. However, with the highest chance of rain here, we won’t risk giving you a name that doesn’t play. So, as you can see, we’re focusing on the Angels vs. Red Sox matchup to continue our top MLB home run picks today.

It’s one where we recently had Roman Anthony as a target, and while he let us down, the Boston lineup gets to enjoy righty Ryan Johnson starting, and of course, the LA bullpen. We would love if Willson Contreras was in the lineup with that being the case but let’s enjoy Gasper’s crazy splits - a great .551 slugging vs. righties, but .095 vs. lefties!
