Dodgers vs. Mets Predictions For MLB Sunday Night Baseball, 5/25

We know that this series is obviously well underway, but let’s properly set the stage for a finale that will be featured on ESPN with Sunday Night Baseball. The Mets had their magical run to the NLCS ended in six games by the hands of the Dodgers.

So, having these two teams as arguably the best two in the National League right now means that we may be seeing a preview for another NLCS to come. As noted, it began with fireworks thanks to a late New York rally, even if it was LA that grabbed the first win of the series. The sheer fact of New York vs. Los Angeles is exciting as well.

The expected pitching matchup certainly doesn’t hurt, either. Well, the Dodgers side involves a name not nearly as known as Clayton Kershaw, but until we see him back on the mound, it’s Landon Knack getting the call. As for the box office part of the matchup, that would be New York’s Kodai Senga.

That matchup alone provides us with plenty to break down to get to the best bet from our Dodgers vs. Mets predictions!

Los Angeles Dodgers: Landon Knack Filling In

Perhaps saying that Knack is just “filling in” isn’t quite doing him justice, as he’s got six appearances this year so far. However, just four of them have been starts, and he’s now thrust into the spotlight given that Blake Snell is on the 60-day injured list and Tyler Glasnow is on the 15-day IL himself.

While the Japanese ace of Yoshinobu Yamamoto provides plenty to be excited about, with no Kershaw or Shohei Ohtani on the mound either, Knack has plenty of pressure on him. His 6.17 ERA isn’t much to love, but in his last start, he was able to record an impressive eight strikeouts. That said, the Mets lineup is one to be feared more than the Athletics he faced in that start.

New York Mets: Closing Out Better Than The Start

Anytime the Mets and “closing” are uttered in the same sentence, all thoughts immediately go to Edwin Diaz, and rightfully so. However, this is about the series overall rather than “Sugar.” In that regard, the Mets got good news moving forward after their 13-inning loss back on Friday night, as heartbreaking as it was.

That was the fact that both Brandon Nimmo and Mark Vientos were upgraded to day-to-day. While those may not be the household names of Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor, any New York fan will tell you that they are key pieces. Any bats that can come in around Soto will help make it so that pitchers can stop pitching around him as much as they have been this year.

Dodgers vs. Mets Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines

You’d expect a rather even game given the matchup, but with the pitching matchup on deck, we aren’t surprised that the latest Dodgers vs. Mets odds at Novig have New York favored:

Dodgers vs. Mets Best Bet: Kodai Senga Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-105 At Novig)

Speaking of that pitching matchup that has the Mets favored, New York’s Kodai Senga has been one of our favorite starters to break down this year. Perhaps only getting to see him take the mound once after already a long time off due to injury had us eager to do so.

Regardless, we’re now even more excited to see him back toeing the rubber in what could be considered a bounce-back spot. Senga recently suffered a loss, but it came by the hands of the Boston Red Sox, and we’ve seen what their offense can do just this weekend with their explosion over the Baltimore Orioles.

Even without that, we know that a 4-3 record certainly doesn’t scream Cy Young. However, his 1.43 ERA certainly does. Whether he gets the run support he needs or not, we’re not going to have to worry about that with a strikeout prop.

Look, we know he’s taking on a star-studded Dodgers lineup, but as we’ve seen from plenty of elite hitters, strikeouts come with the territory. This also isn’t a line like we see for some aces, which can be 7.5 and as high as 8.5 strikeouts. Even still, Senga would have gone over either of those lines in his lone start against the Dodgers, as he recorded nine strikeouts!

Even if we don’t get that type of performance again, expecting 6+ is more than reasonable. Therefore, the best bet from our Dodgers vs. Mets predictions is Kodai Senga over 5.5 strikeouts (-105 at Novig).

Dodgers vs. Mets Injury Report & Starting Pitchers

Way back at the start, we said that LA is still awaiting the return of ace Clayton Kershaw, and as for other Dodgers vs. Mets injury news, they would also love to have Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow back in the rotation, also as noted.

As for New York, we also made sure to provide the updates on Brandon Nimmo and Mark Vientos, and they have a starter they’d like back as well - Frankie Montas. In terms of who we WILL see on the mound, here are the expected Dodgers vs. Mets starters for Sunday Night Baseball:
