(-350) Team Liquid v Golden Guardians (+240)
(-190) Evil Geniuses v FlyQuest (+143)
(+200) Dignitas v Cloud9 (-115)
(-115) Immortals v Counter Logic Gaming (-115)
(+235) Team Solomid v 100 Thieves (-325)
We are in the final week of play for the LCS in the Spring Split and there isn’t a single team that has been eliminated yet from playoff contention. The top has begun to condense with only a game separating 1st and 2nd place and 2nd and 3rd place. The seeding is important for the middle of the pack teams as well, with a berth into the upper bracket possibly making your run to the finals just a little easier if you can take a win in your first series. With every team having something to play for, let’s dive in!
Fantasy Value Breakdown
Game #1: Team Liquid v Golden Guardians
Game Breakdown: Over the course of the Spring Split, TL has shown multiple times that they will lay terrible games. In week 7, their terrible game was against FlyQuest. The worst part of these losses is that you can source the reason for the loss to their draft. They have been tossing out odd picks and weird emphasis on Bwipo to be the carry for the team. They have tried to force this strategy in a meta where the mid lane and ADC roles are the clear power roles. I can appreciate that the team continues to try to reinvent themselves and push the limits of what they can do. Against Golden Guardians, they will not have the luxury to make odd picks or new strategies. GG is coming off a 2-0 weekend and their ADC (Lost) has been on a really impressive trajectory. His 58 kills (only one behind Hans sama) and a 33% team kill participation rate. TL has more skill across their lineup but they need to stay out of their own way.
Favorite Picks: Hans sama (TL: $7,600), Bjergsen (TL: $7,600), Bwipo (TL: $6,600)
Value Picks: Lost (GG: $6,000), Licorice (GG: $5,200), Olleh (GG: $4,000)
Cann’s Match Pick: Team Liquid
Game #2: Evil Geniuses v FlyQuest
Game Breakdown: This is a weird matchup to break down. FlyQuest is coming off of a strong showing against Team Liquid in week 7. They have had really high points but also terrible showings. Evil Geniuses have shown issues with growth and the inability to get their young players in jojopyun and Danny to consistently contribute. In this matchup, I have more faith in the Danny/Vulcan lane to absorb pressure than the Johnsun/aphromoo lane from FLY. One of the biggest curiosities from the TL/FLY match was the fact that TL put no pressure on the bottom lane of FLY. FlyQuest can only really produce in the late game through the Johnsun win condition and EG will focus on keeping him down.
Favorite Picks: Danny (EG: $11,700/$7,800), Inspired (EG: $6,800), Impact (EG: $6,400), Vulcan (EG: $5,400)
Value Picks: Johnsun (FLY: $10,200/$6,800), aphromoo (FLY: $), FlyQuest ($4,200)
Cann’s Match Pick: Evil Geniuses
Game #3: Dignitas v Cloud9
Game Breakdown: There is no reason for Cloud9 to lose this game and they could all but lock in the first seed with a win over DIG on Friday. Cloud9 will continue to rely on Summit and Berserker to carry this team but there is another player we should focus on. Cloud9’s mid laner (Fudge) has been a fascinating storyline in the LCS this split. He began the split playing off-meta and utility champions under previous coaching ragemes. He could not be a force to impact the outcome of the game and most of the time we saw him being more of a game manager at best. In recent weeks, Fudge has found more and more ways to be a connecting piece for Cloud9. He has 100 assists, a 6.3 KDA, and is participating in 20% of C9’s first blood kills. He is active and playing champions now that allows him to have agency rather than champions who have to be surrounded by playmakers. Watch out for this mid lane matchup and how well Blue can hold his own against the reinvented Fudge.
Favorite Picks: Summit (C9: $6,800), Fudge (C9: $11,700/$7,800), Berserker (C9: $7,200), Cloud9 ($5,200)
Value Picks: River (DIG: $5,800), biofrost (DIG: $4,600)
Cann’s Match Pick: Cloud9
Game #4: Immortals v Counter Logic Gaming
Game Breakdown: Picking either of these teams feels like a crime. CLG is one game ahead of Immortals in the standings and has the shorter loss streak (2L) in comparison to their opponents (9L). My problem with CLG is they lack individual skill to get them through teamfights. They have the second most deaths (219) and are averaging a 730 gold deficit at 10 minutes. Immortals are equally as bad (-825 gold deficit) and have a sub 0.75 team KD ratio. My deciding factor is the CLG bottom laner of Luger. Luger has shown in multiple matchups that he can carry his team if put on a strong enough pick. There is a wide range of picks that Luger could find himself on like Zeri, Jinx, and Aphelios which should mean that Immortals can’t limit his impact on the game. I would avoid this matchup but you can pick up good value here if you have a good feeling about one side or another.
Favorite Picks: Luger (CLG: $7,200)
Value Picks: PowerOfEvil (IMT: $6,800)
Cann’s Match Pick: Counter Logic Gaming
Game #5: Team Solomid v 100 Thieves
Game Breakdown: Every slate seems to have an unrealistic upset and last week we saw Team Solomid deliver on that when they beat out Cloud9. I think this is more believable because of the apparent struggles that 100 Thieves are trying to find their way through. Don’t be led astray by the 100 Thieves’ 5 game winning streak. Many of these wins have had really big question marks around them. Huge gold deficits, poor teamfighting, and lack of production out of players like Abbedagge and Closer. Team Solomid has seemingly hit a more refined playstyle and have focused on using Spica to get their top laner, Huni, ahead. Huni can hold his own against 100 Thieves’ top laner, Ssumday. With help from Spica, there is a good chance that TSM can eliminate one of the highest producing players on the slate.
Favorite Picks: FBI (100: $8,000), huhi (100: $6,000)
Value Picks: Huni (TSM: $5,600), Spica (TSM: $6,000), Tactical (TSM: $6,600)
Cann’s Match Pick: Team Solomid
