League of Legends Championship Series

Championship Weekend, Day 1 - April 23rd, 2022

It is time for the final major region to determine it’s representative for the Mid-Season Invitational! This weekend marks a significant moment for North American League of Legends because it will be the first live event in a major venue since early 2020. For players like Danny and jojopyun , this will be the first time they experience the electricity of a massive live audience as the semifinals and finals are set to be held in Houston’s NRG Stadium this weekend. On Saturday, we have a rematch of the first-round showdown between the Evil Geniuses and Team Liquid. Since their loss in the last meeting, Evil Geniuses have secured two massive series victories over FlyQuest and Cloud9 where they dropped only one individual game. Their jungler, Inspired, is looking like one of the most formidable players in the league right now and Danny continues to grow as a rising star in the league. Team Liquid have some unfinished business to take care of with a crushing series loss to 100 Thieves last weekend where TL found themselves on the wrong end of a reverse sweep and a 2-3 loss. Winner of this series plays on Sunday with a chance to beat 100 Thieves and represent the LCS in 2022’s first international tournament.

Match:

(-230) Team Liquid v Evil Geniuses (+175)

Cann’s Prediction: Team Liquid (3-1)

Fantasy Value Breakdown

Liquid’s Captain

Favorite: Hans sama ($16,500) Throughout his initial LCS season, Hans sama has been the most consistent ADC in the league. Even in their series loss to 100 Thieves last weekend, Hans sama was a driving force for TL. He picked up 22 kills and only 8 deaths. His 4+ kill and <2 death per game average is insane when you think about the quality of opponent he is facing and the pressure that is on Team Liquid. In all of their previous matchups, Hans sama and CoreJJ have had a pretty good read on the play of the Evil Geniuses’ bottom lane. Look for some early scrapping in the laning phase which should give Hans sama all the lead he will need to carry the late game for Team Liquid.

Value Pick: Bjergsen ($15,000)

Evil Geniuses’ Captain

Favorite: Danny ($16,200) Danny has truly stepped into his new role of young superstar of the LCS. He outshined the imported talent from Cloud9 in their series last weekend and he has brought a new brand of aggression to the role. Danny is not content with playing in the backline of fights and you consistently see him making aggressive moves to pick up kills. He is far and away the most consistent damage dealer on the team and it shows with his high kill participation rate. EG will look to put him on aggressive champions while scheming clever plays to get him advantages in the early and mid game.

Value Pick: Inspired ($13,200)

Liquid’s Flex:

Favorite: Bjergsen ($10,000) This is the lane that I think will determine a winner. Bjergsen has been a rock within the league for nearly as long as the league has existed. He doesn’t lose lane in a way where he is a detriment to his team and he rarely gets out-macro’d. He knows where to be and when which leads to his high assist numbers along with great KDA. I expect TL to settle a bit in this series and get back to basics. EG took them to 5 games in the last series they played, mostly off of crazy level one plays or weird rotations. Bjerg and TL will default to a traditional style of playing the game and that should mean big late game team fights around objectives and great production numbers out of Bjerg.

Value Pick: Santorin ($9,200)

Evil Geniuses’ Flex:

Favorite: jojopyun ($9,800) Picking jojopyun here is making a pick based on potential output, but not on guaranteed. This young player has had very high flying performances, but paired with weaker individual showings. EG will need to bring Inspired into the middle lane to support jojo, but there could be huge payoffs if it goes well. In games where Bjerg hasn’t been able to leave lane and make an impact, TL loses pretty soundly. Get the counterpick for jojo, put pressure mid, and hopefully let the mechanically skilled rookie carry the late game.

Value Pick: Impact  ($8,000)
