DFS CFB Week 7 Thursday Top Plays
John Rhys Plumlee – QB, UCF ($8,500 DK / $12,500 FD)
On this small slate, Plumlee is in a tier of his own among the quarterbacks. The UCF dual-threat can get it done with his arm (300+ passing yards in three of six games) and on the ground (100+ rushing yards in three of six). Put it together and Plumlee’s cash floor is high with the upside for 40+ DFS points in any given week. He’ll be popular in all formats as the clear top QB on this slate.
Blake Shapen – QB, Baylor ($6,100 DK / $10,200 FD)
If you’re going with a second QB at your Super-Flex, it’s between Shapen and JT Daniels. Both are solid options, but Shapen gets the slight nod because he’s been more consistent while providing a higher DFS floor this season. The Baylor QB has at least 20 DK points in four of five games while Daniels has only once eclipsed 20 DK. Plus, Shapen is the better value on DK with the price differential.
Isaiah Bowser – RB, UCF ($6,900 DK / $9,500 FD)
Bowser isn’t too flashy, but he’s still only one of two clear lead backs worth rostering on this small slate. When Plumlee isn’t stealing TDs away from him, Bowser is UCF’s goal-line option with multiple scores in three of six games this season. That gives him upside for 20-25 DFS points despite not racking up many rushing yards. The price tags are hefty, but it’ll be tough to ignore Bowser in cash. You can look elsewhere in GPP lineups, though.
Richard Reese – RB, Baylor ($5,400 DK / $9,200 FD)
Reese is the top cash RB on this slate, and his DK price tag is egregious. The true freshman is operating as Baylor’s workhorse lead back with Taye McWilliams still sidelined. Reese has at least 20 touches in three straight games and that workload has resulted in a safe DFS floor of 15+ DK points. He’s a cash lock on DK, and is still a strong option on FD while being cheaper than Bowser.
Javon Baker – WR, UCF ($7,200 DK / $8,500 FD)
UCF’s receiving corps is top-heavy with Baker and Ryan O’Keefe both being great options. Baker gets the slight nod when comparing the two because he’s been more consistently a favorite target for Plumlee. The Alabama transfer has at least five catches in four of five games and just went off for six receptions and 138 yards last time out. Though Temple’s pass defense has been good statistically, Baker and O’Keefe are athletic mismatches here.
Bryce Ford-Wheaton – WR, West Virginia ($7,100 DK / $9,800 FD)
Back in Week 2, we got a good glimpse of Ford-Wheaton’s talent and DFS upside when he went off for 11 receptions, 152 yards, two TDs against Kansas. Since then, West Virginia’s WR1 had been relatively quiet until he bounced back for eight catches and 93 yards last game. He’s thew top weapon for JT Daniels and has the upside to be the slate’s highest-scorer. You can roster in cash without many top wideouts between these two games, but his profile is better suited for GPPs.
DFS CFB Week 7 Thursday Value Plays
Kaden Prather – WR, West Virginia ($5,100 DK / $6,700 FD)
Prather is no Ford-Wheaton, but he’s been pretty solid lately as West Virginia’s second-best pass-catcher. He has at least six catches in four straight games with 12 DK or more in all those contests. Prather is more of a short-yardage or possession receiver for WVU and he’s proven to be a reliable target for JT Daniels. You can also look at Sam James, but Prather is more consistent and is seeing more targets on a regular basis.
Ben Sims – TE, Baylor ($4,300 DK / $6,200 FD)
The Baylor tight end has played four games this season and he has at least four catches in every one. He’s a top target for QB Blake Shapen and though his yardage isn’t big, Sims’ reception volume is enough to put him in play for cash lineups. If he finds the end zone, like he’s done twice in four games so far, then Sims has the upside to smash on this small slate. The DK price is too cheap for a guy that has a floor of 8.7 DK this season.
Adonicas Sanders – WR, Temple ($4,200 DK / $6,200 FD)
There aren’t many options worth considering from Temple outside of Adonicas Sanders and Jose Barbon. Both are decent values as the Owls will be throwing a ton while trailing UCF in this matchup. Sanders has been a favorite target of QB E.J. Warner and it’s led to at least four catches and 50+ yards in three straight games coming into this week. He had eight grabs for 90 yards and four receptions for 101 yards in that stretch too. Double-digit DFS points aren’t out of the question, especially in DK’s PPR format, if Sanders catches 4-5 balls with 60 yards or more.
Justin Johnson Jr. – RB, West Virginia ($4,000 DK / $7,500 FD)
West Virginia now has to fill a big hole at running back with CJ Donaldson out with a concussion. In his absence, we have Johnson and Tony Mathis likely splitting the carries unless one becomes the hot hand. Let’s bank on that being Johnson. The sophomore ran for 83 yards and a TD with 7.5 ypc two games ago vs. Virginia Tech, and then had 42 yards, a TD, and 4.2 ypc in the last game. Though Baylor is a tough matchup, Johnson is worth a look in GPPs or cash and he’s been more productive than Mathis in recent outings.
RJ Harvey – RB, UCF ($3,000 DK / $5,700 FD)
After missing the beginning of the season, Harvey has started to get more work now that he’s back healthy. Over three games, he’s averaging 7.1 yards per carry and has put up 73 and 69 rushing yards in the past two contests. Harvey is still operating in a secondary role to Bowser in the UCF backfield, but he’s been more productive than Johnny Richardson. With UCF being massive favorites, we could see Harvey get a ton of carries in the second half with the lead in hand. It’s worth a shot in GPP or cash at his cheap salaries – especially min price on DK.
Also Consider:
- JT Daniels – West Virginia
- Ryan O’Keefe – UCF
- Monoray Baldwin – Baylor
- Sam James – West Virginia
- Tony Mathis Jr. – West Virginia
- Gavin Holmes – Baylor
