CFB DFS Playbook Week 5 Saturday Night

CFB DFS Quarterbacks

Stetson Bennett (UGA) @MIZZ ($8.3K DK)

Neither Bennett nor the rest of the Georgia team was at their best in their 39-22 win over 1-3 Kent State team, but he did make some history. Bennett joined SEC legend and former Heisman Trophy winner, Tim Tebow, as the only QBs in league history to pass for at least 250 yards and rush for a TD in four consecutive games. No need to panic as Bennett is still a top-five Heisman Trophy candidate and in a slate lacking a major DFS stud at the position, he becomes a safe play at a reasonable price.

Riley Leonard (DUKE) vs. UV ($6.0K DK)

One of the biggest question marks for Duke this season was how the young QBs would adjust to a new head coach and offensive coordinator. Through four games, Leonard has been amazing as he's thrown for over 1,000 yards and is leading one of the most explosive offenses in the ACC (7.44 yards per play). He ranks third among the ACC's quarterbacks in average passing yards (320.7 yards per game) and passer rating (174.0) and leads the ACC in completion percentage at 71.3% and is second in passing with 1,047 yards. Adding to what he has done via the air, Leonard is averaging 50.25 yards per game with two touchdowns — the ACC's third-leading rusher as a QB. Nice matchup this week against a Virginia defense that struggled against Syracuse last week.

Jayden Daniels (LSU) @AUB ($7.5K DK)

Daniels will get his first SEC road test this weekend at Auburn. He has been productive through the air (73% completion rate with six TD passes and zero picks) and on the ground (two 90+ rushing yard games with two scores). Daniels has also been clutch, leading two near-flawless second-half surges against Florida State and Ole Miss. If he can get going early (one of his flaws) then we can expect to see another big game from the ASU transfer. He's a top GPP play.

Robby Ashford (AUB) vs. LSU ($5.2K DK)

For the first time this season, Auburn has officially listed the dual-threat Ashford as the lone starter on its weekly depth chart. Ashford is 27-for-47 passing (57.4%/7.9 yard per attempt) with 372 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions this season.  Even before TJ Finley got hurt Auburn was using Ashford as part of a two-quarterback system because of his dual-threat ability as the Oregon transfer has 204 yards on 39 rushing attempts (5.2 per carry) and a touchdown. Ashford is a home dog and a nice value GPP punt on this night slate.

Other Top Quarterbacks:

  • Brennan Armstrong, UV ($7.2K DK) I want to play Armstrong but have just seen too many of his mistakes. A GPP play here against a DUKE team allowing 252 yards in the air.
  • Kedon Slovis, PITT ($6.5K DK)
  • Ben Bryant,  CINCY ($8.0K DK)
  • Casey Thompson, NEB ($7.0K DK) Daniels/Thompson are my fav GPP QBs — one of best DFS games on slate features Thompson.
  • DJ Uigalelei, CLEM ($6.0K DK) Already thrown for 1,000 yards and 10 TDs.
  • Devin Leary, NCST ($7.1K DK) High upside with a low price.
  • Jordan Moore, DUKE ($4.9K DK)

CFB DFS Running Backs

Bijan Robinson (TEX) vs. WVU ($8.6K DK)

Robinson is leading the Big 12 Conference in all-purpose yards (141.50 ypg), rushing touchdowns (7), total touchdowns (8), scoring (12 ppg) and total points scored (36). He also ranks second in rushing yards (412), rushing yards per game (103.3) and third in yards per reception (19.25). He didn’t play in last year’s game in Morgantown but as a freshman, Robinson ran for 113 yards during the Longhorns victory in Austin. Robinson will want to bounce back after that fumble last week, is matchup proof and at sub-$9K on DK as a top play in all formats.

Israel Abanikanda (PIT) vs. GT ($7.5K DK)

Abanikanda totally dominated Rhode Island last week as he ran 19 times for 177 yards and four touchdowns and ended up with 245 all-purpose yards against the Rams. He currently has 479 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 83 carries and is second in the nation with a 180.24 all-purpose yard average. He also leads the ACC in both rushing yards and all-purpose yards. He has been even better over the last three weeks as he has racked up 464 yards and six touchdowns on 75 carries, breaking and then re-breaking his career high in both rushing attempts and rushing yards over the last three weeks. Georgia Tech is allowing 209 yards on the ground per game so lock Abanikanda in your cash lineups and move on.

Titus Swen (WYO) vs. SJSU ($5.9K DK)

Swen leads the Wyoming rushing attack with 394 yards and four touchdowns on 82 carries. Both With Swen and Dawaiian McNeely now both healthy, the Cowboys possess one of the most lethal one-two punches at running back in the Mountain West. They have averaged 126.3 rushing yards per game over the past three weeks, with Swen rushing for four touchdowns during this span. Swen is the cash play and McNeely makes for a sneaky GPP option.

Jordan Waters (DUKE) vs. UV ($3.5K DK)

Duke uses a RB committee — Waters and Jaylen Coleman have split carries and have recorded almost identical numbers: Waters has 38 carries for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns (5.7 yards per carry) and Coleman has 39 carries for 211 yards and 4 touchdowns (5.4 yards per carry). They are running behind a huge and very capable offensive line that has only four sacks allowed — fewest in the ACC. Coleman is $5K DK while Waters is only $3.5K DK — take the value and run.

Other Top Running Backs:

  • Anthony Grant, NEB ($6.1K DK) One of the best RBs in Big Ten so far. Averaging 116 yards per game and 20 carries.
  • Will Shipley, CLEM ($6.7K DK)
  • Shaun Shivers, IU ($6.5K DK)
  • Noah Cain, LSU ($3.8K DK) 4 TDs in 3 games —GPP dart throw.

CFB DFS Wide Receivers

Tyler Scott (CINCY) @TLSA ($7.1K DK/$9.6K FD)

The Cincinnati football team has a new OC and a new starting quarterback in Ben Bryant. They also have a group of young running backs so Cincinnati is throwing the ball much more and one of the recipients to this new style of play is Tre Scott, a speedster who can burn any defense in the conference. Scott has been fantastic to start the season and that continued on Saturday against Indiana when the junior broke a school record with three receiving touchdowns in the first half. There’s no doubt that Scott has taken the place of Alec Pierce as the team's alpha receiver and becomes the top target for Bryant after a game-high 185 receiving yards with the three touchdowns last week plus 8 receptions for 304 yards and four touchdowns over the last two games. This may be the highest-owned receiver on the slate and well deserved.

Cam Camper (IU) @ NEB ($6.2K DK$8.5K FD)

Connor Bazelak and Camper have developed chemistry quickly as they have hooked up 33 times for 418 yards with one TD, making Camper the Big Ten's third-leading receiver. Nebraska has a bad defense that is allowing 280.5 yards per game in the air (7.0 yards per attempt). Camper is the alpha of a team with a 32.75 implied score and as the team leader in in receptions and yards, he could have a huge game if DJ Mathews is ruled is out.

Trey Palmer (NEB) vs. IU ($5.5K DK$8.0K FD)

Palmer runs the slot which has always been money in offensive coordinator Mark Whipple’s scheme. Whipple now has full control of the offense following the firing of head coach Scott Frost and Palmer is converting on nearly 80% of his 36 targets.  He seems to get better every game and as he and Thompson continue to jive together.

CJ Donaldson (WVU) @UT ($5.0K DK/$6.8K- RB)

Donaldson is now a RB but DraftKings still refuses to change him from receiver. The true freshman tight end turned ball carrier has shocked college football with his play and through four games, three against Power 5 teams, Donaldson has rushed for 380 yards and six touchdowns. The freshman back is averaging 95 rushing yards per game, and 7.3 yards per attempt. He ran for 125 yards a score against PITT in his career debut and last week he had 106 yards in a win over Virginia Tech.

Kayshon Boutte (LSU) @AUB ($3.2K DK/$6.0K FD)

If I told you a year ago that Boutte would be $3.2K on a Saturday in October, would you have believed me? Boutte is one of the best NFL-ready prospects in the entire country over the last year and has had some amazing performances. He has, though, gotten off to a slow start this season and missed last week’s game due to the birth of his child. He has failed to record 100 receiving yards through three games (93 yards on 10 receptions total) as he is dealing with a new quarterback in Jayden Daniels.  Boutte just didn’t lose his talent overnight and is still capable of being the best with the ball in his hands. The issue is getting the ball to him as Daniels is still adjusting in the passing game and needs to become more accurate. Sure, Boutte’s statistics have been very underwhelming but the still wears the prestigious #7 for LSU and it is a long season and there is a good chance that he picks up his production tonight against rival Auburn and continues to place himself among the best in the nation.

Other Top Wide Receivers:

  • Brock Bowers, UGA ($7.2K DK/$8.7K FD) A Top GPP play.
  • Bryce Ford-Wheaton, WVU ($7.3K DK/$9.4K FD) 21.5 DKFP with 4 TDs.
  • Jared Wayne, PITT ($5.1K DK/$7.7K FD)
  • Jalon Calhoun, DUKE ($5.9K DK/$6.6K FD) 5.5 targets per game and 15+ DKFP each game.
  • Keytaon Thompson, UV ($6.0K DK/$7.8K FD) 9 targets per game.
  • Kayden Prather, WVU ($5.4K DK/$5.6K FD) 6+ targets per game last 3 weeks — too cheap on FD.
  • Marcus Washington, NEB ($3.7K DK/$5.8K FD) A top punt play at WR.
  • Billy Kemp IV, UV ($3.5K DK/$4.5K FD)
  • Elijah Cooks, SJSU ($4.9K DK)
