CFB DFS Playbook Week 4 Friday Night

CFB DFS Quarterbacks

Garrett Shrader (SYR) vs. UV ($7.8K DK/$12.0K FD)

Call me a homer — but Garrett Shrader is firing on all cylinders and is the lock of the slate. New Syracuse OC Robert Anae has turned this into an exciting offense and Shrader — who threw for only nine TDs in nine starts last season — already has eight TDs in the air with zero picks and three more on the ground in only three games so far this year. He is averaging 33.5 DKFP with a low of 29.5 and Virginia’s defense let former Syracuse QB Tommy Devito throw for nearly 200 yards last week and we all know how inefficient Devito can be.

Hank Bachmeier (BSU) @UTEP ($7.3K DK/$8.8K FD)

Hank Bachmeier has struggled to the point where his own fans are booing him and HC Tim Plough. This could be the type of game to get the fans back on his side as UTEP does not have a good defense and they have been burned by every quarterback that they have played against (Dillon Gabriel, Austin Aune and even New Mexico State’s Diego Pavia). Breakout game for Hank Bachmeier tonight.

Brennan Armstrong (UV) @SYR ($6.6K DK/$9.8K FD)

Brennan Armstrong must really miss his old OC Robert Anae — who is now doing for Garrett Shrader at Syracuse what he did for Armstrong last season at Virginia. The Cavaliers are 72nd in total offense but are 117th in scoring offense (they even let Richmond score 34 points!).  The issue is red zone offense where they are 123rd in the nation in red zone offense, scoring on just seven of 11 red zone trips and six of the seven have been field goals! One TD out of 11 red zone opportunities? That is bad. Anae probably has a good idea of how to shut down his former QB and with a team total of 22.0 that leaves Armstrong as a GPP-only play for me and only because of his cheap price on DK.

Other Top Quarterbacks:

  • Haaziq Daniels, AF ($6.2K DK/$9.2K FD)

CFB DFS Running Backs

Sean Tucker (SYR) vs. UV ($9.1K DK/$10.8K FD

Sean Tucker is averaging 23.6 DKFP on 125.7 YPG and 12 total receptions as a dual threat weapon out of the Syracuse backfield. SU’s 37 points per game are the fourth most in the ACC, and OC Robert Anae is leaning on Shrader and Tucker as a two-man show. Shrader as mentioned above has eight touchdowns and no interceptions, while Tucker has 254 rushing yards through three weeks. He is the highest-priced player on the slate, but he should also be the highest-owned player so it will be a tough fade in cash games. I do lean Shrader if I was forced to only use one SU player in GPPs due UVA’s defense knowing that Anae’s offensive concepts are similar to what he used in Charlottesville plus they have been a solid unit that held Chase Brown to just 14 fantasy points (his season low).

George Holani (BSU) @UTEP ($6.6K DK/$8.9K FD)

George Holani ran for 110 yards on 24 carries, recorded four receptions for 47 yards, and added 69 yards on punt returns for a total of 226 all-purpose yards against UT Martin last week. He is being used like a bell cow and is averaging 26 touches over the last two games and now faces a UTEP run defense that is allowing 199.3 rushing yards per game. Love the game script here for Holani and Boise State and he is one of the safest plays on the board.

Reynaldo Flores (UTEP)

Redshirt senior Reynaldo Flores is a WR who is listed as a RB on DraftKings. He is only $3.2K on DK and is second leading WR for UTEP behind only Tyrin Smith. Flores entered the 2022 season with 277 career receiving yards on 19 receptions but this season he ranks second on the team in receptions (22) and receiving yards (272) in fact, he is leading all UTEP WRs in routes run through their first four games. A player like Flores who gets volume is a solid value play on a PPR site like DraftKings at RB or FLEX and allows you to possibly get one more stud into your lineup.

Other Top Running Backs:

  • Brad Roberts, AF ($7.6K DK/$11.5K FD)
  • Toa Taua, NEV ($6.2K DK/$7.0K FD) Avg 22.6 touches per game.
  • Xavier Brown, UV ($3.0K DK/$5.5K FD) My wildcard play of the week at RB- should see some extra run after 88 yards on nine carries last week.
  • Devonte Lee- NEV ($4.0K DK/$5.9K FD) My wildcard play #2 and as the day goes on I am liking Lee more and more as Taua's backup but still sees action
  • John Lee Eldridge, AF ($5.7K DK/$8.2K FD) Averaging 9.8 yards per carry as Robert’s backup and should see plenty of action in a blowout.
  • Ashton Jeanty, BSU ($4.9K DK/$6.7K FD) GPP play as Holani’s backup.

CFB DFS Wide Receivers

Tyrin Smith (UTEP) vs. BSU ($5.4K DK/$9.0K FD)

Tyrin Smith is my guy on this slate. This kid is a stud on a bad UTEP team. He is pretty much guaranteed to pile up points due to leading the nation in targets (14.5 per game) plus he has not seen less than 12 in any game this season. The Cisco College transfer has caught at least eight passes in three of four games, including eight receptions for 183 yards in a loss to New Mexico last week. This dynamic player has now emerged as the top receiver in El Paso and is averaging 20.3 DKFP on 28 receptions overall for 345 yards and two TDs. At $5.4K DK Smith will be the lead receiver in most lineups that I make tonight.

Keytaon Thompson (UV) @SYR ($5.8K DK/$8.8K FD)

Keytaon Thompson has undergone one heck of a progression from Mississippi State quarterback to Swiss Army knife "football player" to natural wide receiver at Virginia. He is such a strong yards-after-catch machine and is nearly impossible to tackle as the Cavaliers main slot receiver. Armstrong’s “go-to guy” saw 12 targets last week against Old Dominion and caught nine passes for 118 yards. Syracuse’s defense is not immune to allowing receivers to hit the 100-yard mark and Thompson should be the next on the list. He has the highest ceiling of all wide receivers and is a lock right along side Tyrin Smith in cash games as well as GPPs.

Oronde Gadsden (SYR) vs. UV ($6.4K DK/$8.5K FD)

Oronde Gadsden is a 6’5” sophomore, is arguably the most promising contender to go off in a stacked Syracuse’s starting tight end room. He is coming off a career day against Purdue where he caught all six of his targets for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Through the first three games, he leads all Orange receivers in routes run, targets, catches, yards, and touchdowns plus more importantly he is playing in the TE/WR role that we saw Keytaon Thompson play in last year in the Anae offense at Virginia.

Other Top Wide Receivers:

  • Dontayvion Wicks, UV ($6.0K DK./$8.0K FD) Avg 12.7 targets but has not been the player who broke Herman Moore’s single-season UVA record of 1,203 yards last year. Due for a breakout game.
  • Lavel Davis, UV ($4.6K DK/$5.8K FD) Eight catches for 208 yards on season — a deep threat.
  • Stefan Cobbs, BSU ($6.5K DK/$7.4K FD) GPP-only due to price being too high for production so far.
  • Devaughn Cooper, SYR ($3.0K DK/$5.5K FD) 54% snaps last week (third in targets) and should get bump with Isiah Jones injury.
  • BJ Casteel, NEV ($5.5K DK)
  • Dalevon Campbell, NEV ($4.8K DK)
  • Latrell Caples, BSU ($5.2K DK/$8.1K FD) Converted 14 targets into 10 receptions and two TDs.
