College Football CFB DFS Picks – Friday 12/17 Bowl Games
CFB DFS Quarterbacks
| Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
| Jake Haener | FRES | WSU | 8000 | 21.5 | 10100 | 18.97 |
| Fortunately for us, Haener says he’s playing and not opting out of this bowl game before his college career comes to a close. He gets to face a bottom-tier Washington State pass defense that ranked 113th nationally in passing yards allowed per game this season. Haener should have plenty of success through the air with the added motivation of playing in LA for his last collegiate game. He didn’t put up big numbers in the conference title game, but expect a bounceback against an easier defense. | ||||||
| Taylen Green | BSU | UNT | 7200 | 22.49 | 10300 | 21.49 |
| After falling to Fresno State in the conference title game, Boise State should be motivated to get back on track in this bowl and it gets a good matchup. North Texas has struggled against both the pass and run this season, which puts Taylen Green in a great spot. The potential for 20-30 DK is definitely there with North Texas being 115th nationally in terms of passing yards allowed per game. He’s a bit more expensive than we’d like, but Green will be a great play for those looking to fade Mordecai or Haener. | ||||||
| Tanner Mordecai | SMU | BYU | 6900 | 25.82 | 11200 | 24.76 |
| Though he had less than 20 DK in three straight games to end the season, Mordecai is a top QB play on this slate. The game environment is fantastic with a 60+ game total and short spread, plus he’ll face a below-average BYU pass defense that’s struggled against good QBs this season. We know Mordecai’s ceiling when he went off for 65 DK vs. Houston, but 30-40 DFS points is a realistic expectation this weekend. | ||||||
| Jack Miller III | UF | ORST | 4500 | 0 | 8000 | 0.99 |
| Miller is slated to start at QB for Florida with Anthony Richardson sitting out. This is a tough matchup, but Miller is dirt cheap on DK and he doesn’t have to do much to return value. Though he’s yet to play this season, the former Ohio State transfer could surprise and be an excellent GPP value dart at your Super-Flex spot. Reports from practice tell us that Miller is playing with a ton of confidence and he'll be motivated to put his name in the hat for Florida's starting QB next season. | ||||||
| Cade Fennegan | BYU | SMU | 4500 | 0 | 4000 | |
| Fennegan looks like he’s going to start for BYU with Jaren Hall’s status in doubt. Hall is banged up and the quotes from the coaching staff indicate he probably won’t play. As for Fennegan, the former Boise State transfer has yet to take a snap this season and is coming off an injury but has taken first-team reps in practice. It’s risky because BYU’s other backups have been getting practice reps too and may see the field. Still, the GPP upside is definitely there in a high-scoring matchup against a subpar SMU defense and he’s so cheap at the min DK price. | ||||||
Also Consider:
- Cameron Ward – Washington State (GPP)
CFB DFS Running Backs
| Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
| George Holani | BSU | UNT | 7700 | 20.47 | 9000 | 16.90 |
| Holani failed to go over 100 yards in both of the last two games, but look for a bounceback in this bowl game. North Texas’ rush defense has struggled this season to the tune of 188.5 rush yards allowed per game (107th in FBS) and 23 rush TDs allowed in 13 contests. It’s a good matchup for a run-centric Boise State offense and Holani should get back to 100+ yards, 1-2 TDs, and 20-25 DFS points per usual. He's especially a good play on FD since he's only the fifth-most expensive RB on that slate. | ||||||
| Nakia Watson | WSU | FRES | 6500 | 21.16 | 9500 | 18.71 |
| Watson could be leaned on a ton in this one with a decimated WSU receiving corps. Watson has been getting a lot of pass-catching work out of the backfield in recent games, which raises his DFS floor even more. The Cougars’ lead back is also getting 20 or more touches per game with at least 25 DK in four straight to end the regular season. He's in play for cash or GPP. | ||||||
| Christopher Brooks | BYU | SMU | 6300 | 12.95 | 8000 | 11.14 |
| BYU’s starting QB may not be playing, but Brooks is expected to suit up and be the lead back again. He should see the lion’s share of carries with Lopini Katoa out and it could be a huge workload with BYU having a backup QB under center. Brooks ran for 100+ yards in back-to-back games to end the regular season and now faces one of the worst rush defenses in the country with SMU giving up 200+ yards and multiple TDs on the ground per game this year. | ||||||
| Damien Martinez | ORST | UF | 5800 | 13.84 | 8500 | 12.19 |
| Martinez finished the season with 100+ rushing yards in six straight games while getting 15-25 touches in each. He’s been locked into double-digit DFS points with plenty of upside as Oregon State’s lead back in a run-focused offense. Now he faces a weak Florida rush defense that’s been gashed on the ground all year. Keep an eye on his pregame status, though, since he left the regular season finale in the third quarter with an injury. The cheaper DK price should make him popular on that slate. | ||||||
| Tyler Lavine | SMU | BYU | 5400 | 13.58 | 9100 | 13.54 |
| Lavine should be very chalky in cash considering his cheap DK price, the high-scoring game environment, and the favorable matchup. He’s been operating as SMU’s lead back down the final stretch of the regular season and has 20+ DK in five straight games. We’ll take that and his 20+ touches per game any day. Plus, Lavine should be in a workhorse role with TJ McDaniel in the transfer portal. Then there’s the matchup against the 98th-ranked rush defense of BYU. | ||||||
| Trevor Etienne | UF | ORST | 4600 | 10.68 | 5800 | 9.85 |
| Florida will likely be leaning on the ground game with backup Jack Miller under center and Anthony Richardson out. It’ll be a lot of Montrell Johnson and Trevor Etienne with both being solid plays on this slate despite a tough matchup on paper against Oregon State. As for Etienne, he just ran for 129 yards and a TD on 17 carries in the regular season finale vs. FSU and has the upside to smash value at his affordable prices. | ||||||
Also Consider:
- Frank Gore Jr. – Southern Miss (GPP)
- Hinckley Ropati – BYU (GPP)
- Deshaun Fenwick – Oregon State (GPP)
CFB DFS Wide Receivers
| Player | Team | Opp. | DK $ | DK FPPG | FD $ | FD FPPG |
| Jalen Moreno-Cropper | FRES | WSU | 7000 | 17.25 | 8500 | 13.83 |
| Like his QB, Moreno-Cropper will be motivated to put on a show in his last collegiate action before playing in the Shrine Bowl and getting ready for the NFL Draft. Though he’s been quiet in recent games, we know he has the upside to go off for 30+ DFS points in any given game. That’s a real possibility against a weak Washington State secondary that will likely get shredded by Jake Haener. The combo is expensive but should be worth it in cash. | ||||||
| Jordan Kerley | SMU | BYU | 5900 | 13.31 | 8200 | 12.00 |
| With Rashee Rice sitting out this bowl game, Kerley moves into a bigger role in SMU’s receiving corps. There’s a big drop-off from Rice to the rest of the SMU wideouts, but Kerley was the clear second-best this season. He was better at the end of the season with 19 DK in the last game and 31 DK three contests ago. Plus, Kerley should see even more targets with Dylan Goffney also out for SMU. | ||||||
| Keanu Hill | BYU | SMU | 5300 | 11.95 | 6200 | 7.70 |
| According to BYU’s head coach, Puka Nacua possibly won’t play in this bowl game. That would leave Keanu Hill as BYU’s top healthy receiver with Gunner Romney likely out again too. Hill said this week that he’s “100%” for this bowl after hurting his wrist in the regular-season finale. Two games ago, Hill went off for six receptions, 137 yards, three TDs, and 40 DK – so we know the upside is there. Though Jaren Hall won’t be throwing the ball to him, Hill could have a huge target share by default. | ||||||
| Ricky Pearsall | UF | ORST | 5200 | 11.84 | 6800 | 10.13 |
| Pearsall is left as one of the only viable Florida pass-catchers with Shorter entering the draft, Reynolds in the transfer portal, and injuries all over. We’ll have to see which WRs are warming up pre-game and what the depth chart will look like, but Pearsall sets up to be a top target for the Gators. He went for five catches, 148 yards, and two TDs in the regular season finale vs. FSU. It’s a tad unclear, though, which receivers new QB Jack Miller will prefer. | ||||||
| Robert Ferrel | WSU | FRES | 5100 | 12.34 | 8800 | 9.64 |
| By default, Ferrel should see a ton of targets in Washington State’s receiving corps this weekend. Renard Bell is out with an injury and both De’zhaun Stribling and Donovan Allie are transferring away. That leaves Ferrel as a top target for Cameron Ward in this bowl. Ferrel had four catches for 71 yards and a TD for 19 DK in the regular season finale. He’s very affordable for a cash floor on DK. | ||||||
| Roderick Daniels Jr. | SMU | BYU | 4500 | 7.02 | 6200 | 5.90 |
| If you didn’t realize it, there’s a ton of pass-catching production up for grabs for SMU with Rashee Rice sitting out. We mentioned Jordan Kerley above, but Roderick Daniels is also worth a look in all formats. He’s been more involved in recent games than other Mustangs’ receivers and he gets a boost with Dylan Goffney being out too. Austin Upshaw is a possible GPP dart too if you want to go cheaper than Daniels. | ||||||
| Caleb Douglas | UF | ORST | 4000 | 8.75 | 5600 | 7.75 |
| Douglas could move into a bigger role for this bowl game with all of Florida’s absences in WR corps. The freshman could also have a better rapport with new QB Jack Miller than other WRs, or than he did with Anthony Richardson for that matter. It’s definitely a GPP dart, but the opportunity should be there for Douglas and some of the other healthy Florida receivers to return value. | ||||||
| Chase Roberts | BYU | SMU | 3900 | 10.34 | 6000 | 7.71 |
| With Puka Nacua possibly out, someone in BYU’s receiving corps will be stepping into more targets and a bigger offensive role for this bowl game. Chase Roberts is the likely candidate as he’s shown flashes at times this season when Nacua was sidelined. Remember when he went off for 34 DK back in Week 2 when Nacua was out? At least one of these BYU pass-catchers will smash value, but we have no idea who the backup QB favors. Roberts is worth a GPP dart even if Jaren Hall is out. | ||||||
| Leyton Smithson | WSU | FRES | 3800 | 7 | 6300 | 5.50 |
| We mentioned Ferrel above, but Smithson is also worth a look in cash or GPP lineups since he’s one of the only proven Washington State receivers active this weekend. We have Bell, Stribling, and Ollie all out for WSU and Smithson has stepped up when given the opportunity this season. He had seven catches for 58 yards in the regular season finale. The cheap price puts him firmly in play for all formats. | ||||||
Also Consider:
- Nikko Remigio – Fresno State (GPP)
- Jason Brownlee – Southern Miss (GPP)
- Isaac Rex – BYU (GPP)
- Silas Bolden – Oregon State (GPP)
