The action starts at 7:30 pm ET with Tulsa as a 13-point road favorite against Temple with a 53.5 over/under. Then at 8 pm ET, Western Kentucky hosts UAB as a 1.5-point favorite and a 58.5 game total. Let's now dive in to the CFB DFS top picks and plays for Friday night, October 21st.
DFS CFB Week 8 Friday Top Plays
Austin Reed – QB, Western Kentucky ($7,900 DK / 11,500 FD)
Reed is the best DFS QB on this slate by far and he should be close to 100% rostered in cash lineups. Western Kentucky has a pass-heavy offense which keeps Reed’s DFS floor consistently safe for 25-30 points at least with the high volume of pass attempts and yards. Even though UAB presents a tough matchup on paper, there’s no getting around playing Reed in cash tonight.
Dylan Hopkins – QB, UAB ($5,100 DK / $9,000 FD)
Hopkins gets the best matchup of any QB on this slate as the Western Kentucky pass defense is 82nd in FBS with 242.5 passing yards allowed. Even though the UAB offense doesn’t throw it much, Hopkins can do enough in this higher-scoring matchup where he’ll have to keep pace with the WKU attack. Plus, he brings some dual-threat upside into the mix like when he ran for 103 yards and a TD last week. On DK, Hopkins is a huge value and will be a popular Super-Flex.
DeWayne McBride – RB, UAB ($7,900 DK / $10,500 FD)
There’s only one stud RB on this slate and his name is DeWayne McBride. The UAB back has rushed for at least 120 yards and a TD in every game for at least 21 DK every week. The offense is a run-heavy one that centers around McBride, so his carry volume is safe. He’s worth paying up for on this small slate, and fade at your own risk in cash lineups.
Deneric Prince – RB, Tulsa ($5,600 DK / $7,000 FD)
After being out to begin the season, Prince debuted two games ago and immediately stepped into a lead back role for Tulsa. He had 71 rushing yards and two TDs on 17 carries against Cincinnati while Steven Anderson only saw eight carries. Last game was a different story, though, as Prince ended up with negative rushing yards on just four attempts in a 30-point loss to Navy. Still, the whole team struggled running the ball and finished with only 25 rush yards in that game while playing from behind. This week, Tulsa will play with a lead and it should lead to plenty more carries for Prince – assuming he’s back in the lead role again.
Keylon Stokes – WR, Tulsa ($7,900 DK / $10,000 FD)
Stokes has at least 29 DK in four of six games this season and he has 20 DK in another. The guy is seeing a ton of targets from QB Davis Brin and his only “bad” game of 8 DK came against Ole Miss, which is understandable. Temple won’t be able to contain him tonight and he can be safely rostered in cash or GPP as arguably the top overall play on this slate, besides maybe Reed and McBride.
Malachi Corley – WR, Western Kentucky ($7,600 DK / $9,200 FD)
We have a ton of Western Kentucky receivers to choose from on this slate, and choosing at least one to pair with Reed is a good idea. It’s either Corley or Daewood Davis if you want to pay up for one. Davis is firmly in play too, but Corley has caught fire in recent games after a mid-season lull. He had 10 catches for 100 yards and TD last week and 11 catches for 131 yards the previous game. With how much the WKU offense throws it, he could easily do it for a third straight week.
Michael Mathison – WR, Western Kentucky ($4,300 DK / $5,900 FD)
If you want cheaper exposure to WKU’s passing attack, then Mathison is a solid value on both sites. Only a few weeks ago, he went off for 34 DK with nine catches, 160 yards and a TD and he has the upside to give you 15-20 DFS points any time out in this offense. Yes, Mathison is definitely the fourth or fifth option at times in the passing game, but sometimes you need to take shots on this small slate to differentiate. Mathison is a cheap way to do it in a prolific offense where multiple receivers can be valuable.
Jose Barbon – WR, Temple ($4,100 DK / $7,400 FD)
Last Thursday, we mentioned Adonicas Sanders and Jose Barbon both being the only Temple players you want to consider on the small slate like this one. That’s basically true again. Both were great values playing catch-up against UCF last game and Temple will surely be trailing against Tulsa here. Barbon is way too cheap on DK for a guy that’s put up 21 and 26 DK the last two games. He’s the GPP play while Sanders is the better cash floor option.
Also Consider:
- Davis Brin – QB, Tulsa
- Daewood Davis – WR, Western Kentucky
- Trea Shropshire – WR, UAB (better value on DK)
- Isaiah Epps – WR, Tulsa
- Kye Robichaux – RB, Western Kentucky
- Edward Saydee – RB, Temple
- Adonicas Sanders – WR, Temple
