CFB DFS Lineups: Top Plays
Kevin Jennings, SMU QB ($8,000 DK / $10,000 FD)
The Baylor-SMU matchup features the highest total on the slate. Both quarterbacks in this game should be considered top plays. Baylor’s Sawyer Robertson deserves strong consideration as well, but Kevin Jennings gets the slight edge at home. The SMU QB looked good in Week 1, going 22-for-30 with 260 yards and 2 TDs. He also added a rushing score. Jennings has that dual-threat upside after rushing for 354 yards and 5 TDs last year. He’ll face a Baylor defense that got lit up for 38 points and 415 total yards by Auburn last week.
Jadan Baugh, Florida RB ($6,200 DK / $10,200 FD)
As a freshman last year, Jaden Baugh’s potential was evident right away as he ran for 673 yards and 7 TDs on 5.1 yards per carry. That was also in a split Florida backfield. Baugh is expected to have a bigger role with a larger workload this season as one of the better running backs in the country. In Week 1, he ran for 104 yards and a TD on just 9 carries. It was a 55-0 win over LIU, which explains the limited touches. He should see more usage this week, and gets to face a USF defense that ranked 81st against the run last year.Â
Hollywood Smothers, NC State RB ($6,500 DK / $9,800 FD)
There may be more talented and more expensive running backs on this slate than Hollywood Smothers. Yet, what the NC State RB brings to the table is what we love for DFS. Smothers is the bell-cow workhorse back in an expected one-score game with a total in the 50s. That’s an ideal game flow to target lead running backs for CFB DFS lineups. In a similar situation last week, Smothers saw 26 touches for 106 total yards and a TD vs. ECU. We can get a comparable stat line or better this weekend against Virginia. At least, that heavy workload is encouraging.Â

CFB DFS Lineups: Value Plays
Cooper Barkate, Duke WR ($4,900 DK / $6,400 FD)
There are many value WRs to consider this week. One of them is Cooper Barkate, who was Duke’s top pass-catcher in Week 1. The Harvard transfer had 1,084 receiving yards and 11 TDs last year. It was against easier competition, but the early returns are promising that the production will translate over into the Duke offense. Barkate’s 117 yards and 8 targets led the WR corps last week. He was one of the go-to options for QB Darian Mensah. If that continues, then he’s a steal at these prices.Â
Kole Wilson, Baylor WR ($4,600 DK / $6,500 FD)Â
As noted above, the Baylor vs. SMU matchup is one to target this week. In addition to the quarterbacks, getting a receiver or two from this game is a smart strategy – especially if you’re stacking. On the Baylor side, Kole Wilson is too cheap after what he just did in Week 1. He had 8 catches on 12 targets for 134 yards against Auburn. The Texas State transfer looks like a favorite option for Sawyer Robertson right away. The two should connect often in this week’s high-scoring game.Â
Seth McGowan, Kentucky RB ($3,400 DK / $6,600 FD)
Kentucky is rolling with a two-headed backfield of co-starters Dante Dowdell and Seth McGowan. Both saw double-digit carries in a one-score win over Toledo in Week 1. McGowan had a team-high 18 carries for 78 yards and a TD. Though Dowdell finished with 129 yards, 79 of those came on one carry. He has more explosiveness, but McGowan could see a larger volume game-to-game with a safer DFS floor. Either way, both are too cheap on DK, and McGowan is a solid value on FD.Â
