Joe Girard III, Syracuse OVER 14.5 Points
Syracuse (13-12, 7-7 ACC) and Georgia Tech (10-15/3-11 ACC) may be in different spots of the won-loss column but one thing is for sure- they should produce an offensive shootout tonight in the Carrier Dome. Syracuse comes in as the 17th ranked adjusted efficiency offense in the nation (115.2) and both teams push the pace forcing the game total to 145.0- one of the highest of the evening.
Georgia Tech will be keen on stopping Syracuse’s premier guard- Buddy Boeheim who does have a weakness creating rim penetration and generating contact. So, with the increased defensive attention on Boeheim, enter Joe Girard III. Girard is by far Syracuse’s best off the dribble shooter and is averaging 13.7 points and 4.3 assists per game on 43.5% 3-point shooting. Better yet he is playing his best ball of the season averaging 16.8 points over his last five games and has hit the over on the 14.5 scoring prop in six straight. There will be lots of points and be assured Girard will get his.
Race Thompson, Indiana OVER 7.0 Rebounds
Thompson’s become one of college basketball’s best glue guys. A guy that does all the little things rarely makes mistakes, is tough, dedicated, and a leader. One of the things that he is good at is rebounding- with a 7.8 per game average on the season and 11.2 over the last five games.
Tonight, the Hoosiers face Ohio State in a fierce Big Ten matchup. Ohio State is a good team with the #9 adjusted efficiency offense in the nation (117.9) but one thing that they are mediocre at is at the boards. The Buckeye’s offensive rebounding percentage is 29.6% (137th) while their defensive rebounding is even a bit worse at 28.4% (192nd). Indiana, on the other hand, has the 57th ranked defensive rebounding team in the nation (24.9%) while Thompson has a combined 30.7% rebounding rate. With 22 rebounds over the last two games, Thompson is rounding into form and along with teammate Trayce Jackson-Davis has a solid chance of hitting the over prop tonight.
