Terquavion Smith, NC State -- OVER 2.5 3-PT Made
If you’ve ever watched Syracuse play basketball, you know about the unique 2-3 zone defense that’s become a Jim Boeheim staple over the years. This type of defense welcomes opposing three-point attempts with teams trying to exploit the holes in the zone around the perimeter. According to KenPom data, Cuse allows the second-most opposing points via the three-pointer in all of college basketball this season - and they’re allowing teams to shoot 34.4% from beyond the arc.
So, naturally, we look to target this matchup with NC State’s top perimeter shooters. Terquavion Smith is the Wolfpack’s most active three-point shooter - averaging nine attempts per game over the past ten contests and launching it a team-high 166 times over 22 games this season. Smith will definitely get the looks from deep, but it's just a matter of how many of them he makes. The freshman combo guard is hitting at a 38% clip during conference play and has made three or more three-pointers in 11 of the last 15 games. Expect him to drain a few tonight in a matchup that encourages opposing perimeter shooting.
Au’Diese Toney, Arkansas -- OVER 11.5 Points
Even though Toney isn’t usually the first, second or even third scoring option for Arkansas, he can still rack up points with how high-scoring the offense can be. The Razorbacks play at one of the quickest tempos in the country, routinely score 75+ points per game and will benefit tonight from facing a fast-paced Georgia team with one of the worst defensive units in college hoops. Toney has scored 12 or more points in four of the last five games and has seen an increase in shot volume and offensive role during conference play lately. Ideally that continues tonight in a favorable matchup vs. Georgia’s subpar defense in a high-total environment.
Kyler Edwards, Houston -- OVER 27.5 Pts+Rebs+Asts
Edwards is a consistent stat-stuffer for Houston as the team continues to roll through the easier AAC competition. As the team’s alpha playmaker, he’s seeing a ton of offensive usage and shot volume as the Cougars deal with the season-ending injuries to both Marcus Sasser and Tramon Mark. Since both have been out of the lineup over the past month, Edwards is averaging 19 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 5.1 APG and 30.6 PRA per contest. He’s also gone over this 27.5 PRA line in five of the last six games with Sasser out of the lineup. By default, Edwards is having to do a ton as both a scorer and facilitator in Houston’s offense and he’s consistently logging 35+ minutes even in blowout wins. Expect him to continue the hot streak tonight by going over his PRA line.
