College Basketball CBB DFS Top Plays January 7th:

CBB DFS Top Guards

RJ Davis, North Carolina vs. Notre Dame ($7.9K)

Davis went into the half with only five points (1-of-3 shooting) on Wednesday night against Wake Forest but then came out guns a blazin' scoring 22 points over the next 20 minutes by hitting four three-pointers and dishing out a couple of assists en route to a season-high (and game-high) 27 points. This was the best that Davis may have looked this season so far on offense as surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career — making him the 81st Tar Heel to do so. The Tar Heels and Davis (at a reasonable $7.9K and 37+ DKFP in three of his last four) should build off the win over Wake Forest and carry momentum this morning against Notre Dame

Caleb Mills, Florida State vs. Georgia Tech ($6.8K)

Mills is the Seminoles' primary ball handler and leader of their offense. He went from Houston to Gainesville after the 2020 season and hasn't looked back. He is as steady as they come and carries an assist rate of 26.2 which is good enough for ninth in the ACC and 160th in the nation. He is only shooting a career-low 24% but with a 26.2% usage and 26.1% shot rate, he can create his own offense and get himself to the rim. Add in a 2.7% block and 3.6% steal and Mills will stuff the stat sheet today against Georgia Tech.

Other Top Guards

Top point-per-dollar plays

  • Bryce Hopkins, Providence ($9.0K) A GPP-only play due to price but can fill it up quickly as he's coming off 36 DraftKings fantasy point game against UCONN.
  • Kario Oquendo, Georgia ($6.2K) This is a mid-$8K player that we are getting at a massive discount today plus he's healthy. With 25.6% usage and a 27.9% shot, he's in play for all formats today.
  • Terrence Shannon, Illinois ($7.5K) With Skyy Clark gone, Shannon will be on the ball the entire game.
  • D'Moi Hodge, Missouri ($7.9K) Has a 25.4% shot rate.
  • Cormac Ryan, Notre Dame ($6.6K) 28+ DraftKings fantasy points in three of last five games.
  • Andre Jackson, Connecticut ($7.4K) Due for a bounce back game and UCONN should roll after losing two straight games.
  • Leaky Black, North Carolina ($6.0K) If Nance is out, Black is in play with 28+ DraftKings fantasy points in three straight games.

CBB DFS Value Guards

Alyn Breed, Providence vs. St. John's ($3.5K)

Providence starting guard Jared Bynum went to the locker room with a midsection injury early in the first half of Wednesday's win over UCONN and stayed on the bench for the rest of the way. Breed took his place in the lineup to begin the second half and ended up with 13 DraftKings fantasy points on six rebounds, three assists and two points scored, Bynum had an MRI this morning and is considered day-to-day. If Bynum is out, Breed becomes a popular play due to a dirt cheap $3.5K DK price and the fact that he should see 30+ minutes in a high-paced game against a bad St. John's defense.

Marcus Hammond, Notre Dame @ North Carolina ($4.4K)

Hammond was a scoring star for four years at Niagara and had one heck of a preseason for the Fighting Irish. He then injured his knee and missed the first seven games of the season. So it took a while, but we finally saw the Hammond breakout game on Dec. 27 vs Jacksonville when he poured in a team best 15 points in the win. He shot 6-of-11 from the field and 3-of-7 from deep, taking control of the Irish offense and pushing the tempo. Then he went for a team-high 15 points on 6-of-11 from the floor to go with three rebounds and three assists this week against Boston College. With Hammond in the lineup, the ball moves up the floor and around the half-court so much quicker. With 32 points over the last three games (10.7 PPG) Hammond is a steal at $4.4K.

Other Value Guards

Top point-per-dollar value plays

  • Makai Ashton-Langford, Boston College ($5.6K) Too cheap as their team leader. He sports a 25.1% usage/26.2% shot rate. Put up a dud against Notre Dame with 18 DraftKings fantasy points) but before that was 37 and 31 DraftKings fantasy points in his last two games.
  • Miles Kelly, Georgia Tech ($5.9K) Has a 22.7% usage/26.7% shot and has not been under 20 DraftKings fantasy points since November 23rd! Flies right under the radar with 25+ DraftKings fantasy points in every game but one since November 23rd.
  • Deebo Coleman, Georgia Tech ($3.9K) A 30 min player. Both Coleman and Lance Terry in play in a great game environment against FSU.
  • Lance Terry, Georgia Tech ($3.9K) Logged 40 mins against Miami with 37 DraftKings fantasy points. Both Terry and Deebo in play in a great game environment against FSU.
  • Noah Locke, Providence ($4.2K) Coming off logging 34 minutes and scoring 24 DraftKings fantasy points with Bynum hurt.

CBB DFS Top Forwards

Armando Bacot, North Carolina vs. Notre Dame ($9.9K)

In the last meeting between UNC and Notre Dame (last January) Bacot shot 6-for-7 from beyond the arc and scored 21 points and what then was a career-high 17 rebounds. He actually had a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) in the first half. Today, he should dominate the interior again as the Irish are struggling with an extremely low offensive rebound rate (19.9%) — actually ranked 353rd in the nation! Bacot, on the other hand, is pulling down a 15.6% offensive rebound rate (22nd in the country) and 36% combined. He has put up 46+ DraftKings fantasy points in three of his last four games and 42+ in four of his last six and is just dominating his way to a double-double average on the season (19.7 PPG and 10 RPG). Bacot (especially with Pete Nance questionable) and Kentucky's Oscar Tshiebwe are the top pay ups on the slate and you may be able to get to both players with the type of value we have today.

Oscar Tshiebwe, Kentucky @ Alabama ($10.6K)

Leading the Wildcats into Coleman Coliseum will be senior forward Tshiebwe, the reigning and unanimous player of the year. Tshiebwe leads the country with 13.6 rebounds per game – no other player in the SEC averages double digits – and offensive rebounds per game (5.64) plus is fifth in the SEC in scoring with a 16.8 PPG average. The big post player has a league-leading seven double-doubles this season, giving him 35 in his 45 games as a Wildcat and he smoked Alabama last year with two double-double performances. The goal today will be to try and get Bacot and Tshiebwe together in your main lineup.

Ed Croswell, Providence vs. St. John's ($7.6K)

Croswell is another “double-double” machine as long as he doesn't get himself into foul trouble. He gets one of the best game environments on the slate against a bad St. John's defense in a pace-up game. With an 18.0% offensive rebound rate (ninth in the entire nation), Croswell also will stuff the stat sheet with a 4.3% block and even 3.2% steal rate on the season to go along with a 13.7 scoring average and 28.4 DraftKings fantasy points over his last five games. Love this price here on the fifth-year big man in his third season with the Friars.

Other Top Forwards

Top point-per-dollar plays

  • Joel Soriano, St. John's ($9.5K) Soriano has been a BEAST. He's a double-double machine and matchup proof.
  • Brandon Miller, Alabama ($9.0K) Leads SEC in scoring and 34th in the country.
  • Colin Castleton, Florida ($8.7K) Playing 30-plus minutes and will crush if he stays out of foul trouble.
  • Liam Robbins, Vanderbilt ($7.5K) 51 DraftKings fantasy points in his last game and 30+ DraftKings fantasy points in his last two previous contests.
  • Derrick Walker, Nebraska ($7.4K) With 33+ DraftKings fantasy points in two of last three games, Walker is always volatile but has a ceiling.
  • Ryan Kalkrebber, Creighton ($8.2K) Stay out of foul trouble and Kalkrebber should have a big game.
  • Dawson Garcia, Minnesota ($7.0) Has 33+ DraftKings fantasy points in three of last four games with a 26.1% usage/29.5% shot rate. Garcia is a sneaky play.
  • Jacob Toppin, Kentucky ($6.2K) After struggling, Toppin is starting to pick it up with 30+ DraftKings fantasy points in his last two games.
  • Kalib Boone, Oklahoma State ($6.0K) One of my fav mid-priced plays if Moussa Cissé is OUT. Boone he may nuke the slate if he gets the minutes.

CBB DFS Value Forwards

Carter Gilmore, Wisconsin @ Illinois ($3.6K)

Tyler Wahl played only nine minutes during Wisconsin’s win over Minnesota after injuring his right ankle when he rolled it coming down from a rebound attempt on a Steven Crowl basket. As far as his status for today's game at Illinois, it’s still up in the air. and Greg Gard said he didn’t know about a timetable for the forward's return. The next man up in Wahl’s absence would be Carter Gilmore. And no matter if he’s coming off the bench or starting, the junior forward is going to do whatever he can to help the team.

Dariq Whitehead, Duke @ Boston College ($4.9K)

After winning multiple awards for being the nation’s best high school player last year, Whitehead entered the 2023 draft cycle as a top-five prospect for many but he was forced to miss the beginning of Duke’s season while recovering from foot surgery. When he finally was able to play, he started out cold but recently, Whitehead appears to be moving much better and getting more comfortable. Over his last three games and now with an increased role, he’s averaged an efficient 14.3 points while shooting nearly 40% in six attempts from deep per contest. He's making tough shots off the dribble and in his last three outings, he’s made six total field goals at the rim, just one less than he made during his first eight games. Whitehead is way too cheap for a star in the making.

Other Value Forwards

Top point-per-dollar value plays

  • Quinten Post, Boston College ($5.7K) Post is far too cheap and should see almost 30 minutes today.
  • Tyreek Smith, Oklahoma State ($4.4K) Smith is in play IF Cisse misses. Logged 26 minutes and scored 15 DraftKings fantasy points in his last game.
  • Cameron Corhen, Florida State ($4.4K) Corhen should start and play 25-30 minutes. His last four games: 20, 6, 30 and 9 minutes.
  • Rodney Howard, Georgia Tech ($5.0K)

DraftKings Core

  • Armando Bacot, UNC
  • Allyn Breed, Providence (if Bynum OUT)
  • Marcus Hammond, Notre Dame
  • One more stud (preferably Oscar Tshiebwe, Kentucky)
