College Basketball CBB DFS Picks 2/24

TOP CBB DFS GUARDS

Andrew Taylor & Taevion Kinsey – Marshall @ Old Dominion ($9.0K & $8.8K)

Marshall’s Taevion Kinsey (21.9 ppg) and Andrew Taylor (20.1 ppg) are the only teammates in the country both averaging 20 or more points per game and are both in the top five in field goals made. Kinsey ranks top-10 nationally in both points (4th, 635) and assists (10th, 155) and leads the Sun Belt in scoring at 22.5 points per game (double figures in 110 of his last 113 contests).

Taylor is 13th nationally in steals with 62 swipes on the year and leads the Sun Belt in steals per game at 2.3. Both are above 26% usage while Taylor is top-50 with a 30.9% shot rate. I think you get the point by now- these two are stars and are viable in all formats tonight in Marshall’s regular-season finale against Old Dominion.

Isaiah Stevens – Colorado State vs. Wyoming ($7.9K)

Colorado State failed to meet their regular season expectations, even with Isaiah Stevens back. They only have a few games left before the Mountain West tournament but do not count this team out and they could very well be playing in the finals at Thomas & Mack in two weeks. Stevens pours in 18.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and a team-best 6.4 assists per game and finally gets a plus matchup at Moby Arena after two games on the road against very tough defenses in San Diego State and Fresno State. He still managed 20+ DKFP in those games but tonight Stevens is sub-$8K while facing a weak 277th (66.10) ranked defense. Guard is loaded tonight but this is just too cheap of a price for the Rams team alpha.

Other Top Guards (point per dollar):

  • Hunter Maldonado, Wyoming ($9.4K) – GPP-only due to price but Maldonado can always nuke the slate and win you a GPP; 26.3% usage/24.6% assist rate with 34.55 DKFP last 5 games.
  • EJ Harkless, UNLV ($8.2K) – Member of the elite 30/30 Club (32% usage/31.6% shot rate) makes Harkless my favorite GPP play on the board.
  • Mekhi Long, Old Dominion ($7.8K) – 39 and 38 DKFP over the last 2 games for Long who is always a threat for a “double-double”; I like this play more and more as the day goes on.
  • Kadary Richmond, Seton Hall ($8.1K) – Richmond is a stat sheet stuffer with a 32% assist rate but is a GTD (back)- the biggest news item of the slate.
  • Kenan Blackshear, Nevada ($7.5K) – Blackshear put up 37 DKFP against Fresno State in the earlier meeting; 28.6% usage/25.5% shot rate.
  • Chaunce Jenkins, Old Dominion ($6.8K) – Lit up Marshall for 33 DKFP in January; I lean toward the cheaper Jenkins over teammate Scott Grayson ($7.6K) in high scoring matchup tonight.
  • John Tonje, Colorado State ($6.2K) – Tonje has a  23% usage/shot rate; 25+ DKFP in 5 of the last 6 games.

CBB DFS TOP GUARD VALUE

Shane Nowell – UNLV vs. Air Force ($4.1K)

Shane Nowell is now the second player to emerge from the depths of UNLV’s bench after freshman Keyshawn Hall broke into the Rebels’ rotation a few weeks ago before getting injured. Nowell, a former Arizona wing, who transferred to UNLV before this season, has been stuck behind a logjam at his position with EJ Harkless, Luis Rodriguez, and Elijah Parquet. Now, with Rodriguez and Parquet dealing with their own ailments, Nowell is a good shooter and isn’t afraid to let it loose- if he misses a couple, he still keeps gunning. Averaging 18 DKFP over his last three contests and with Parquet and Rodriguez both expected to miss another game, Nowell is in play on another value-starved Friday night slate.

Other Guard Value (point per dollar):

  • Brendan Wenzel, Wyoming ($5.0K) – Wenzel is a 30-minute guard with a 5x ceiling but low floor (9.2 PPG last 5)
  • Femi Odukale, Seton Hall ($5.4K) – 3.2% steal rate for Odukale who will get a bump up if Richmond is out.
  • Carter Murphy, Air Force ($4.9K) – Murphy comes off the bench but plays nearly 30 minutes every game with 21 DKFP in 3 straight; second favorite value after Nowell with a 24.9% shot rate while on the floor.
  • Bryce Baker, Old Dominion ($3.5K) – Baker should be good enough for 4-6X value today in a high-scoring matchup.
  • Jamir Harris, Seton Hall ($3.1K) – Harris will become mega-popular if Richmond sits due to price and minutes but hasn’t shown much all season (4.1 ppg) in a limited role.

TOP CBB DFS FORWARDS

Eduardo Andre – Fresno State vs. Nevada ($6.7K)

It is a spend-up slate at guard tonight so we will need to search for mid-priced forwards. With Isaih Moore now out for the rest of the season all eyes shift to Nebraska transfer Eduardo Andre in the post for the Bulldogs. He had four double-doubles (three in the Mountain West) on the season and is coming off a monster game at Air Force. Andre put up 26 points, seven rebounds, three steals, a couple of dimes, and a block (45 DKFP) and now has three straight games over 33 DKFP. He is nationally ranked in both offensive (10.6%- 173rd) and defensive (25.6- 39th) rebounding and his 8.6% block rate puts him in the top 30 in the country. You can pay up for the likes of Xavier’s Jack Nunge ($8.7K) but at $6.7K you get the same and maybe even more from the Fresno State junior.

Rytis Petraitis – Air Force vs. UNLV ($7.7K)

Rytis Petraitis is a Fantasy Alarm favorite and I will always play him in at least one of my top three lineups for the brand. With five double-doubles on the season (three in Mountain West play) the true freshman has been nothing but spectacular. He is now coming off his sixth Mountain West Freshman of the Week honor after averaging 14 points and 9.5 rebounds in a pair of games last week against Utah State and Wyoming. In the Wyoming game, the forward went 11-for-12 from the line and set a new Air Force freshman record for most free throws in a season.  He carries a 23.9% usage and 30% combined rebound rate on the season plus gets to the line often with a 6.0 FD/40 and 76.4% FT rate (10th in the nation). With the number of elite guards on the slate tonight it may be tough to get Petraitis in your main lineup but he will certainly be in an alternate as he plays against a UNLV team that is only rebounding at a 31.8% rate on the defense and allowing 52.2% shooting from the field.

Other Top Forwards (point per dollar):

  • Jack Nunge, Xavier ($8.7K) – 30.9% combined rebound rate for Nunge; 15.0 PPG/7.4 RPG over his last 5 games- GPP only tonight.
  • KC Ndefo, Seton Hall ($7.0K) – Averaging 25 DKFP over his last 2 games; Ndefo went through a mini-slump two weeks ago but should be good for a 20 DKFP floor tonight.
  • Tyrese Samuel, Seton Hall ($7.2K) – 27% usage and 30+ DKFP in 2 of Samuel’s last 3 games; 11.2% offensive rebound rate.
  • Darrion Williams, Nevada ($6.8K) – Williams has 30+ DKFP in 2 of his last 3 games with one of them being 36 DKFP against this same Fresno State team. Maybe my favorite sub-$7K forward on the slate.
  • Beau Becker, Air Force ($6.4K) – 25.6% shot rate with a solid 20 DKFP floor.

CBB DFS TOP FORWARD VALUE

Jeremiah Oden – Wyoming @ Colorado State ($5.8K)

Wyoming finally has eight scholarship players able to take the court. In the aftermath of the collective decision by Ethan Anderson, Max Agbonkpolo, and Jake Kyman to leave the program during a difficult season Wyoming has really struggled. Hunter Maldonado is still here and a stud but one player that has really stepped up is Jeremiah Oden in the power forward spot. He scored a career-high 19 points with five rebounds and two assists against Air Force last week and now has put up 20+ DKFP in six of his last seven games. Playing 35 minutes a game and with a $5.8K price tag, Oden is viable in all formats as a top value.

Other Forward Value (point per dollar):

  • Patrick Cartier, Colorado State ($5.2K) – Cartier carries a 23.8% usage/25.8% shot rate but is a “boom or bust” type player with a 12 DKFP-30 DKFP range of outcomes.
  • Hunter Thompson, Wyoming ($4.6K) – Price is there for a 30-minute player but Thompson scored 0 DKFP in 20 minutes against Boise State two weeks ago and 21 DKFP the very next game. Obviously, a volatile player.
  • David Muoka, UNLV ($5.0K) – Muoka has a 30.1% combined rebound rate with a 10.7% block rate (10th in the nation). 20 DKFP average over his last 3 games.
