College Basketball CBB DFS Picks 2/17

TOP CBB GUARDS

Omari Moore – San Jose State vs. New Mexico ($8.2K)

Moore is the best player on an SJSU team closing in on its first winning season in 12 years. The 6-foot-6 senior averages 17.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.9 assists and is ninth on the school’s career scoring list with 1,145 points. With a 27.9% usage/28.3% shot (37% usage last 5) and 30.7% assist rate Moore is the top point per dollar guard spend up on the slate as SJSU (16-10) needs a home victory against New Mexico to equal the program’s highest win total since 1976-77.

Javian McCollum – Siena vs. Quinnipiac ($6.6K)

With some strong value on this slate, you can play any guard that you wish but McCollum is just too cheap and as good a play as Jordan Dingle and Hunter Maldonado. With six regular-season games left, the Saints are reintegrating guards McCollum and Michael Eley into the rotation and they combined for 45 points in their last game against Marist with McCollum scoring 22 in his return from a back injury. McCollum is the leader of this Saints offense and it is not surprising that they lost two straight with him out of the lineup as he carries a 29% usage (35% over the last two games since he has been back); 27.6% shot and 29.1% assist rate. He doesn’t foul but draws 5.1 FD/40 which puts the 87% foul shooter on the line quite often.

Other Top Guards

  • Jordan Dingle, Pennsylvania ($9.0K) – Dingle is a star with a 32.4% usage (4th in the nation) and 35.3% shot rate (6th in the nation). He can be used in all formats as the safest guard on the slate (30-39 DKFP in every game but one since January 7th).
  • Hunter Maldonado, Wyoming ($9.6K) – Another 30/30 Club member as his 32,8% usage is 3rd in the nation and 33.7% shot is 10th.  40 DKFP in 2 of his last 4 games. In play in all formats.
  • Jamal Mashburn Jr., New Mexico ($7.7K) – 36% usage and 28.50 DKFP with Jaelen House out (GTD tonight) but struggled in the last game (19 DKFP) against Wyoming- bounce back spot and gets an upgrade if House sits again- just beware this is a pace down game for UNM.
  • Luis Kortright, Quinnipiac ($6.8K) – Solid price for a 26.1% usage/24.8% shot rate team leader with a 29.5% assist rate; 14.6 PPG/3.6 APG (28 DKFP) last five games the “show no mercy” guard is the center of Quinnipiac hoops resurgence.
  • Alvaro Cardenas, San Jose State ($6.3K) – The GPP pivot off a popular Omari Moore. Scoring dependent but Cardenas can throw points up fast and put up 26.5 DKFP in the last game against New Mexico.

TOP VALUE GUARD

Carter Murphy – Air Force @ Wyoming ($3.5K)

If Jeffrey Mills is out (head injury), Murphy should get plenty of playing time again and is a near-value cash lock. He is coming off a 31-minute game against Utah State where he put up 13 points (21 DKFP) and the game against New Mexico (where Mills went down) where he scored 18 points (25 DKFP). With a 22.7% usage/25.1% shot rate when he’s on the floor, a 3.5K price tag is well worth the risk for the senior guard.

Other Guard Value

  • Bez Mbeng, Yale ($5.9K) – Eight straight 20+ DKFP makes Mbeng a solid cash play.
  • Donovan Dent, New México ($4.3K) – Dent is volatile (7, 28, and 6 DKFP over his last 3 games) but the minutes are there if House is still out and he can put up fantasy points from all over – 19.1% assist, 4.3% block, and 3.0% steal rate.
  • Brendan Wenzel, Wyoming ($4.6K) – Wenzel plays loads of minutes and comes off a 13-point, 7-rebound, and 3-assist game (29 DKFP) against New Mexico. Over his last 3 games, he’s put up 23, 18, and 29 DKFP and is in play tonight in GPPs and possibly cash.
  • Javonte Johnson, New Mexico ($4.1K) – 25 and 26 DKFP with 18 shots over the last 2 games and playing 30+ minutes with House out – solid price.
  • Michael Eley, Siena ($4.3K) – Sneaky GPP play off the bench with a 29.4% shot rate plus 25% usage while on the floor over his last five games.

TOP CBB FORWARDS

Morris Udeze – New Mexico @ San Jose State ($8.2K)

Udeze, the 6’-8” Wichita transfer leads the Mountain West with 10 double-doubles on the season and is the third part of the most talented trio in the Conference (Jamal Mashburn Jr/Jaelen House). In the earlier meeting against San Jose State a month ago Udeze smashed with 17 points and 14 rebounds (41 DKFP) for one of his best games of the season. This is a pace-down game but Udeze should be the one Lobo least affected and will take advantage of his 32.9% combined rebound rate as the top overall forward on the slate.

Brandon Noel – Wright State @ Cleveland State ($6.3K)

Noel, a Wright State redshirt freshman has been able to operate this season in relative anonymity, but his recent play has changed all of that and his name is highlighted on opposing scouting reports. He just earned his fourth Horizon League Freshman of the Week award of the year after averaging 15 points, eight rebounds & five assists a game last week against IUPUI and Robert Morris and didn’t slow down against Western Kentucky with 18 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, three assists and two steals- CBB fantasy gold. The stat sheet stuffer is averaging a combined 35% rebounding rate and has gone 30+ DKFP in three straight and 10 of his last 13 games.

Other Top Forwards:

  • Toumani Camara, Dayton ($8.8K) – 33.9% combined rebound rate with 23.9% usage; 47+ DKFP in 2 of his last 4 games and a 20 PPG/11.0 RPG average over his last five but you will be paying a premium price here.
  • Tristan Enaruna, Cleveland State ($7.8K) – Has been the “go-to” for the Vikings with a 24.5% usage/25.4% shot rate and had 21 points/9 rebounds (40 DKFP) against Wright State earlier in the season.
  • Ryan Petraitis, Air Force ($7.6K) – One of my DFS favs with a 23.9% usage, 29.8% combined rebound, 22.7% assist, 3.5% block, and 2.5% steal rate – all nationally ranked. Not in love with the price but Petraitis is in play tonight in all formats.
  • EJ Jarvis, Yale ($6.4K) – Matt Knowling and Jarvis are both in play for Yale. Jarvis is the higher upside GPP play and had his best game of the season against this same Penn team a month ago- 14 points/10 rebounds (37 DKFP).

TOP VALUE FORWARD

Tae Williams G/F – Cleveland State vs. Wright State ($3.6K)

Tae Williams is the first name that should be inserted into your lineup tonight. Williams has been a key to the Vikings' success and is averaging 10 points per game and has scored in double figures 15 times so far this season. He is coming off a 20-point and six-rebound game (37 DKFP) against Youngstown State and better yet DraftKings made a mistake and lists his last game played as 1/27 against Purdue-Fort Wayne. The error may work to our advantage as Williams carries a 22% usage and 22.9% shot rate coming into tonight’s game against Wright State, a team that he has already lit up for 28 DKFP a month ago.

Other Forward Value:

  • Hunter Thompson, Wyoming ($4.3K) – Reasonable price for a starter that plays 25 minutes a game- 7.1 PPG/5.0 RPG over his last five games.
  • Ben Schweiger G/F, Loyola-Chicago ($5.3K) – 24+ DKFP in 3 of his last 4 games.
  • Bryce Golden, Loyola-Chicago ($4.0K) – I really like this price and the ex-Butler big has been starting the last eight games. Not in love with the 6.5 FC/40 but Golden did have his best game of the season against this same Dayton team with 15 points/5 rebounds (23 DKFP). Sneak value play.
