CBB DFS TOP GUARDS

Brandin Podziemski- Santa Clara vs. UCF ($7.9K DK)

The most eye-popping aspect of Santa Clara’s early season start has been the play of Illinois transfer Podziemski. He hung 30 points on Eastern Washington in his debut with the Broncos, followed it up with 34 points against Georgia Southern and after a little hiccup against UTST he came back roaring against DePaul with 21 points and 12 rebounds (52 DKFP). Overall, he is averaging 21 real points, 8.3 rebounds and nearly three assists a game for a 44.58 DKFP average. Podziemski can shoot, is good in transition, gets moved around in the offense and knows how to get free- which usually ends up with the easy look- making him the top guard of the slate.

Terrence Shannon- Illinois vs. Virginia ($7.3K DK)

He was always a solid starter at Texas Tech (11.0 ppg the last three seasons) but I’m not sure that the college world was ready to see TJ Shannon morph into Steph Curry once he left for Illinois. He was always an NBA prospect due to his size, athleticism, and skill but Shannon has now been given the freedom to make plays with the ball in his hand. Shannon through four games is averaging 24.3 points in 28.5 minutes per game while shooting 57.4% from the field, 53.8% from three and 74.4% from the free throw line. Plus, he has increased his rebounding percentages by more than double (7.5 RPG) and is at a career-high assist rate of 3.5 assists per game. Shannon and Podziemski will be the main anchors of cash lineups at the guard spot today.

Other guards to consider:

Marcus Shaver Jr – Boise State ($8.6K DK) 3.8 APG/7.4 RPG (31.65 DKFP) Top pay up at Guard

Umoja Gibson- Oklahoma State ($8.0K DK) 17 PPG/6.5 APG (35.38 DKFP)

Kendric Davis- Memphis ($7.0K DK) 20.3 PPG (32.50 DKFP) still looking for that big game but one of best floors on slate

Adam Flagler- Baylor ($7.2K DK) 16 PPG (31.45 DKFP) Great point per dollar play

Reece Beekman – Virginia ($6.7K DK) 5.6 APG (30.30 DKFP)

CJ Kelly- Central Florida ($6.1K DK) 15.0 PPG/31% Usage (25.81 DKFP)

TOP VALUE GUARDS

Philmon Gebrewhit- DePaul vs. Oklahoma State ($4.2K DK)

Gebrewhit is a 6’7” 185-pound fourth year player that compliments speedy Umoja Gibson and Javan Johnson at DePaul. He can score inside and, on the perimeter and has double digit fantasy points in all three games that he has played this season. He is not afraid to shoot and against Minnesota he put the ball up 11 times enroute to a 15 point/5 rebound game plus is coming off 32 minutes on Friday night against Santa Clara. Guard is starved for value today so may as wqell take a chance on a $4.2K player that is on the floor for most of the game.

Carlos Stewart- Santa Clara vs. Central Florida ($5.2K DK)

Santa Clara’s offense relies heavily on the duo of Podziemski and Stewart to score most of their points. They combine for more than 50% of the team’s shots and the Broncos do a great job of moving the ball to create shots for them. Stewart is the team’s point guard and has put up 32, 13 and 13 DKFP in his three games played. He has a solid 26.40 usage rate to go along with a 10.8 point per game average. This is more of a GPP play but on a slate lacking Guard value he can be used in Cash if needed.

Other Guard Value:

Jordan Crawford- College of Charleston ($3.0K DK) Freshman should be making his debut and if he plays 18-20 mins he could smash value- high risk play

Hunter Sallis- Gonzaga ($4.2K DK)

Amari Bailey- UCLA ($5.3K DK)

Darius Maddox- Virginia Tech ($5.4K DK)

CBB DFS TOP FORWARDS

Oscar Tshiebwe- Kentucky @ Gonzaga ($9.0K DK)

All eyes are on tonight’s All-American battle between Tshiebwe and Gonzaga’s Drew Timme. UK coach John Calipari has been comparing it to another battle of two great big men, Marcus Camby and Tim Duncan, in December 1995 while he was coaching at UMass. Hopefully, Kentucky’s star will have no limitations and will be ready to finally join the starting lineup for the top-five matchup. After missing the first two games of the season, Big O looked like his old self in 34 minutes against Michigan State going for 22 points and 18 rebounds to extend his double-double streak to 17 games. That streak finally ended in Thursday night’s home blowout win over South Carolina State where he only needed to score six points and seven rebounds in 17 minutes. With the lack of solid value, it will be difficult to get both Timme and Tshiebwe in your lineup together. I am leaning Tshiebwe is my main lineup, but I sure cannot argue against Timme.

Jaime Jaquez G/F – UCLA vs. Baylor ($7.1K DK)

Jaquez, a UCLA veteran, averaged 13.9 points and 4.7 rebounds last season, despite battling numerous ankle injuries. Assuming he’s healthy, those numbers will skyrocket, and we saw it happen on Friday in the Bruins loss to Illinois. Jaquez played 39 minutes and put up 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals for a 43 DK fantasy point game. Baylor is no pushover on defense, but Jaquez Jr may emerge as one of those matchup proof players this season if he can just stay healthy.

Coleman Hawkins- Illinois vs. Virginia ($6.1K DK)

Junior center Coleman Hawkins is the only returner on the Illinois roster who averaged double-digit minutes last season – mainly as Kofi Cockburn’s backup. He will be filling a more significant role this season with Cockburn gone and as a faceup big will cause problems with a smaller Virginia team today. Hawkins has length and athletic ability and we have already seen his defense increase tremendously. Terrance Shannon is definitely doing work for the Illini with a 24.3-point average but Coleman has already settled in nicely at 10.0 ppg and a solid 7.2 rebounds.

Other Forwards to consider:

Drew Timme- Gonzaga ($8.8K DK) It’s the Battle of the Bigs- make sure Timme and/or Big O is in your main lineup- 20.7 PPG/8.0 RPG & 31.4% Usage (37.7 DKFP)

Taylor Hendricks – Central Florida ($8.5K DK) 15.8 PPG/8.9 RPG (31.9 DKFP)

DeAndre Williams- Memphis ($7.7K DK) 19.5 PPG/8.5 RPG (40.4 DKFP)

Moussa Cisse- Memphis ($8.2K DK) 10.8 RPG (34.8 DKFP) Top GPP play

Javan Johnson- Depaul ($7.5K DK) 18.0 PPG/7.8 RPG & 26.6% Usage (32.0 DKFP)

Kadin Shedrick- Virginia ($6.2K DK) 12.0 PPG/5.7 RPG (28.6 DKFP)

TOP FORWARD VALUE

Anton Watson- Gonzaga vs. Kentucky $5.2K DK)

Watson is arguably the best blend player in the nation and has turned into a really good player. Watson and Drew Timme space the Zags floor this year (as opposed to Timme/Chet Holmgren last season). As long as he is assertive Watson will maker value at this price as he is averaging 18 DKFP to go along with 7.0 PPG and 2.7 RPG with a 57.1 FG%.

Other Forward Value:

Parker Braun- Saint Clara ($5.5K DK) 8.5 PPG/6.0 RPG (21.9 DKFP)

James Moors- Colorado State ($4.7K DK) 10.0 PPG/4.8 RPG (21.3 DKFP)

Patrick Cartier – Colorado State ($4.4K DK) 10.6 PPG (16.8 DKFP)

Caleb Dorsey- Penn State ($3.8K DK) 3 out of 4 games double digit DKFP but last game only 1 DKFP on six minutes of play- GPP dart only
