TOP GUARDS

Izaiah Brockington (Iowa State) Opp OU ($8.1K DK)

The star power at forward today puts high-dollar Alondes Williams (Wake Forest) in more GPP territory, so I will look more towards Brockington in cash. He is second in the Big-12 in rebounding (7.5 per game) and is the conference’s fourth-leading scorer with a 17.2 average. Brock has become my default safe cash play this season and it will continue today with that 25.9% usage, 29.0% shot, and 21.3% defensive rebounding rate.

James Akinjo (Baylor) Opp TCU ($7.4K DK/7.8K FD)

After playing at Georgetown and Arizona, Akinjo was looking for a system that would let him expand his point guard skills and make his teammates better to prepare him for a potential NBA career. He’s found it at Baylor and the numbers don’t lie - his 5.7 assists lead the Big 12 and his 13.3 scoring average ranks eighth. After a clunker at Kansas, Akinjo has reeled off three straight 30+ DKFP and should be a fourth today.

Adam Flagler (Baylor)  Opp TCU ($6.1K DK/6.1K FD)

Guard is a bit lacking on this slate - especially when Adam Flagler is a top guard in his price range. But here we are and the more you dig in, the safer the play looks. He doesn’t have the greatest peripherals and is shooting reliant, but when a player averages 12.6 shots per game, he produces a pretty stable floor. In the previous meeting against TCU, Flagler put up 13 shots and scored 16 points en route to a 34 DKFP game which was his second-highest fantasy point game of the season. A solid price here.

Other Top Guards

  • Alondes Williams (WAKE) $9.3K DK  *35+ DKFP just by walking onto the court
  • RJ Cole (UCONN) $7.4K DK/6.8K FD
  • Paul Scruggs (XAV) $7.2K DK/6.6K FD
  • Jahvon Quinerly (BAMA) $6.9K DK/5.5K FD  *problem is which Bama guard will have the big game- I lean Quin today
  • Sahvir Wheeler (UK) $6.7K DK/5.1K FD  *upgrade if TyTy Washington OUT
  • Xavier Pinson (LSU) $6K DK  *will fly right under the radar today

TOP VALUE GUARDS

Dre Davis G/F (Louisville)  Opp CLEM ($4.8K DK)

Louisville is a cheap tight rotation, and the team overall may not be very good but some of these value plays are DFS gold. The team just dropped its seventh straight loss, but you can’t blame Davis as he matched a season-high with 18 points. He is getting steady minutes with a 34-minute average over the last two games and with a 23% usage rate while on the floor, Davis will be a popular play.

El Ellis (Louisville)  Opp CLEM ($5.2K DK)

Ellis has scored in double-figures in the last five games, including a career-high 25 points against North Carolina. He is scoring reliant but averaging 11.8 points per game over his last 12 games - best on the team in that stretch and shooting 39% from beyond the arc. With 30% usage over the last five and a 26.7 shot rate on the season plus 33 minutes on back-to-back games, Ellis is in play as a top value.

Other Guard Values

  • Andrew Jones (UT) $5.0K DK/5.1K FD
  • Flo Thamba G/F (BAY) 5.0K DK/5.0K FD
  • Adam Kunkel (XAV) $3.8K DK/3.9K FD
  • Terrence Shannon (TTU) $5.3K GPP/5.1K FD  *bad DFS game environment is keeping Shannon from the top value; B2B 30 DKFP games

TOP FORWARDS

Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky)  Opp BAMA ($9.8K DK/8.9K FD)

This is a fade at your own risk play every time big O is on the slate. Since December 11th, he has had double-digit rebounds in every game but New Year’s Eve and has five double-doubles over his last seven games played. Last game against Alabama, he had 10 points and 15 rebounds for 40 DKFP and would expect the same again today.

EJ Liddell (Ohio State)  Opp IOWA ($9.6K DK/8.3K FD)

The marquee game of the slate will be tight and high scoring.  Features a battle of the teams’ two All-American candidates in OSU’s Liddell and Iowa forward Keegan Murray, the Big Ten’s leading scorer at just over 23 points per game. Liddell is $300 cheaper and carries the team when they play tough squads, plus he is the bailout guy when the shot clock runs low - 19.2 points per game, 7.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.5 blocks. Liddell is in the nut spot for cash and a lower owned Murray in GPPs, but both are smash plays.

Adamo Sanogo (Connecticut) Opp XAV ($7.0K DK/7.1K FD)

Sanogo’s price has been all over the place as he went from $8K down to $5.3K last Sunday and now back up to $7K for a home game against Xavier. Price is still $1000 too cheap for the big guy, who is averaging 15.4 points and 9.0 rebounds over his last five games with a 30% usage rate. He has a 14.2 offensive rebounding rate (35th in the nation) and 33.4% combined rebounding plus a 7.5% block rate. Xavier is no pushover inside, but this is a player with 50 burger potential every time he steps on the court.

Other Top Forwards

  • Keegan Murray (IOWA) $9.9K DK/8.8K FD
  • Walker Kessler (AUB) $9.3K DK/8.8K FD
  • Kofi Cockburn (ILL) $9.2K DK/8.0K FD  *could be slates highest scorer at end of the day
  • Colin Castleton (UF) $8.6K DK/7.7K FD
  • Jack Nunge (XAV) $7.6K DK/7.0K FD
  • Jeremy Sochan (BAY) $6.2K DK/5.2K FD

TOP FORWARD VALUES

Nate Laszewski G/F (Notre Dame)  Opp @WAKE ($5.2K DK)

I love this spot for Lasz today. He is finally getting healthy and coming off a 33-minute game against Boston College. The Irish will need his height and speed today against the big lineups that Wake runs and with a 23.2% defensive rebounding rate, Lasz is in a sneaky spot. His overall rates don’t jump off the page due to health issues, but that may keep his ownership low and all to ourselves.

Jae’Lyn Withers (UL) Opp CLEM ($5.0K DK)

Withers has been the one bright spot during the Cardinals losing streak. The 6’9” sophomore was a preseason ALL-ACC selection that was nearly out of the rotation a month ago. Enter interim coach Mike Pegues, who has forced Withers to play more around the basket, post more often, and to use his athleticism and size. Over the last three games, Withers has scored 6-8X his value by putting up 25, 33 and 24 DKFP games while playing 25-30 minutes. There is risk here with a 4.7 FC/40 rate, but if Withers can stay out of foul trouble, he should easily hit value plus more once again.
