Back in the day, we'd be all about the fantasy baseball mock drafts at this time of year. We would each have our copies of the newest fantasy baseball draft guide, we would set a date for our primary fantasy baseball drafts and then spend however much time in between in the mock draft room. Not anymore. Today it's all about MLB best ball drafts.

Are MLB Best Ball Drafts Better Than Regular Fantasy Baseball Mock Drafts?

It's a great question and the answer is yes and no. Everyone loves doing MLB best ball drafts because they get their draft-fix in without the long-term maintenance of managing a roster. You don't even need to "set it and forget it"," because once you draft, your roster is set-up by the software, at RTSports.com in this case, and you don't need to do anything else. You also get to, potentially, make some money. In the case of this draft here, we each pay $20 and the winner of the league gets $100, but there is also an overall grand prize of $10,000 as these drafts are part of the RT Sports Best Ball Championships.

On the other side, the fantasy baseball draft strategy you must employ in these drafts is likely to be dramatically different from your home league draft. The scoring in these best ball draft is points based, not rotisserie. High-end pitching is significantly more valuable, both because the scoring is skewed to favor it and there are no waivers. In a traditional roto league, you can actually wait on starting pitching and build your offense first.
