Emmet Sheehan’s 2025 campaign was a partial one, but it offered plenty of optimism for the future. Returning from Tommy John surgery that cost him the entire 2024 season, Sheehan rejoined the Dodgers' rotation in mid-2025 and flashed impressive stuff. Across 15 appearances (12 starts), he posted a strong 2.82 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 73.1 innings. His strikeout rate remained elite at 30.6%, fueled by a fastball-heavy approach (47% usage) complemented by a slider and changeup. While the Dodgers were understandably cautious with his innings, limiting him to roughly 5 innings per start, his effectiveness when on the mound was undeniable, culminating in a 2.1 WAR season in limited time.
Entering 2026, Sheehan is a breakout candidate if the Dodgers take the training wheels off. Now nearly two years removed from surgery, he should be cleared for a heavier workload, though the Dodgers' six-man rotation tendencies may still cap his volume around 130-145 innings.
