2026 Fantasy Baseball Player Profile
Spencer Horwitz’s 2025 campaign with the Pirates was a resilient performance that showcased why he is considered one of the most disciplined hitters in the game. His season was nearly derailed by a right wrist injury that required surgery in February, sidelining him until mid-May. After a predictably slow start post-surgery, Horwitz exploded in the second half, slashing .305/.418/.497 after the All-Star break. He finished the year as the only Pirates hitter with an OPS+ over 100 (118), highlighted by a monstrous September where he posted a 1.085 OPS and firmly established himself as a cornerstone of the Pittsburgh order.
Entering 2026, Horwitz is at the center of a "good problem to have" for the Pirates. Following the high-profile additions of Ryan O’Hearn and Brandon Lowe, the 28-year-old’s role is shifting from everyday first baseman to a versatile utility weapon. In spring training, manager Don Kelly has been deploying Horwitz across 1B, 2B, and DH to keep his elite bat in the lineup. Before the regular season starts, Horwitz will travel to represent Team Israel in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, a tournament where he previously excelled in 2023.
