2024 Player Outlook

Williams' 2024 season was delayed due to elbow inflammation, and he didn't make his first start until July 3. The lack of a regular ramp up affected him, and he logged a 4.86 ERA and 1.37 WHIP to go along with an ugly 3-10 record. While he did post a 3.29 ERA in 2023, his xERA that year was 4.21, and last season, his xERA was 4.22. Williams will be just 25 this season, he boasts good velocity with his fastball, and the addition of a cutter last season gave him another weapon to miss bats (34.1 percent whiff rate). Drafting Williams is taking a chance on his talent and upside, and he doesn't have to be an ace to provide fantasy managers with a quality return on investment. If he can win 10-12 games with an ERA around four, and push his strikeout rate up a percentage point or two, fantasy managers will be more than happy with selecting the Cleveland right-hander. I don't want to be too bullish on Williams, a guy routinely drafted outside of the top 60 starters, but he has "breakout" written all over him in 2025.
