2022 Player Outlook

Rasmussen was acquired by the Rays in the trade that sent Willy Adames to the Brewers. The Rays gradually stretched out Rasmussen and he eventually became an integral member of their starting rotation down the stretch. Rasmussen started eight games for the Rays, averaging just under five innings pitched per start and posted a 1.46 ERA as a starter. The Rays will probably seek to keep Rasmussen in their starting rotation, but in order him to be an effective starter for a full season he’ll need to develop an effective third pitch. Rasmussen relied on his fastball (.220 BAA) and slider (.119 BAA) in his eight starts and only occasionally went to his curveball and changeup. Unfortunately, his curve (lifetime .333 BAA) and change (lifetime .286 BAA) are far from being elite pitches.
