2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Ortiz was a highly ranked prospect in the Baltimore organization, and he’s better than his .212/.206/.242 across 34 plate appearances with the team last year. The move to Milwaukee is good for Ortiz, because his path to playing time is far clearer than what it would have been in Baltimore. His ability to hit for power in the big leagues will certainly be called into question, but he’s routinely hit for a solid average in the minors, and he’s a plus defender.

2024 Outlook: There is a chance he opens the year in the minors, but I have a hard time thinking that Andruw Monasterio is enough to prevent the team from getting a look at Ortiz at the big-league level. If he doesn't open the year with the team, it won't be long before he is up, and once he's called up, he should see regular at-bats, especially if the team moves on from Wily Adames at shortstop.
