2023 Player Outlook

Despite his 4-7 record, Lodolo endeared himself to plenty of fantasy managers last year, posting a 3.66 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 29.7 percent strikeout rate. After just three starts, he went to the IL with a back strain and had some mixed results in the first handful of starts back. However, over his final 13 starts of the year, he posted a 2.92 ERA, 3.57 FIP, 3.43 xFIP, and 10.87 K/9. Lodolo’s sinker and changeup were excellent for inducing ground balls, and his curveball generated a .136 BAA) and 46 percent whiff rate. He’s incredibly tough on left-handed hitters, and he actually posted a 2.85 ERA at home last year, but his arsenal doesn’t have me overly concerned with his home park. The young southpaw is an arm to be excited about for fantasy purposes because he can miss bats, and he showed us for an extended amount of time last season that he can be nearly dominant. He may not get a ton of wins pitching for the Reds, but fantasy managers will like the big-time strikeout rate and a sub-4.00 ERA, which is a conservative projection.
