2022 Player Outlook

We only saw three innings of Roansy Contreras last year, but what a fun three innings it was! He punched out four batters, showed great velocity with his fastball and his slider posted a 50 percent whiff rate. He has immense potential, and that could be underselling it. Contreras will deal with some lumps as he adjusts to the bigs, but all of the potential is there. Yes, wins may be tough to come by, but at least there are a couple of good young bats in the lineup to help the Pirates maybe score four runs per game instead of three, or two, or zero. He likely won't see a full workload this season, but he'll strikeout closer to a batter per inning, and help your team's ratios. For his minor league career, he posted a 1.10 WHIP across 307.1 innings of work. He's the one Pittsburgh Pirates starter I would willingly draft.
