2022 Player Outlook
The Rays’ highly regarded prospect appeared in 19 games and made 15 starts last season but judging from the results he’s going to need a bit more seasoning before he fulfills his potential. He has five pitches in his repertoire, but for the most part he relies on his fastball and slider. The latter is his best pitch (.195 BAA) and had the highest Whiff % (33.3) among his offerings. The Rays will likely continue to ease Patino into the starting rotation this season, but he could still make appearances out of the bullpen as well. He’ll need to lower his walk rate and further develop a third pitch before he can be considered a reliable starting pitcher.
