2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Montero slashed .243/.290/.426 last season across 85 games to go along with 11 home runs, 15 doubles, and 39 RBI. Montero notched a 36.2 percent strikeout rate, and only a 4.9 percent walk rate, and opposing pitchers ate him up with non-fastball offerings. He has an increased propensity to leave the zone, and he posted a 49.3 percent whiff rate against sliders, a 54.5 percent whiff rate against curveballs (.065 BAA), and a 56.4 percent whiff rate against changeups. Also, we need to mention that he hit just .175 with a .521 OPS away from Coors Field in 2023.

2024 Outlook: The contact rates are concerning, as well as his continued struggles against non-fastballs at the big-league level. He has enough pop to be a quality offensive force, especially at Coors Field, but the hole(s) in his offensive game are too concerning. He'll serve as a backup corner infielder for the Rockies in 2024, and while he could be a midseason pickup if he starts playing every day and hitting, he's undraftable at the moment.
