2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: An ill-timed oblique injury cut McLain's exceptional 2023 season short, resulting in him playing in just 89 games for the Reds. Across those 365 at-bats, he slashed .290/.357/.507 with 16 home runs, 23 doubles, 65 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases. While his expected statistics indicate some regression could be in store for McLain, his quality of contact metrics are impressive, and half of his games are played in one of the game's best parks for hitters. As the year went on, his strikeout rate did increase a bit, but he continues to make solid contact, and was solid against both lefties and righties.

2024 Outlook: For 2024, he should have dual-position eligibility, which is always nice from a roster construction standpoint, and if he can improve on fastballs up in the zone, opposing pitchers are going to have a hard time dealing with McLain in 2024. Despite routinely being drafted within the top 65 picks, he's a great value on draft day, and could be knocking on the door of a 25/25 season. He's a player to be very bullish on this season, as he's a lock for regular at-bats, and this Cincinnati offense should be exciting in 2024.
