2022 Player Outlook
If it weren't for the signing of Robbie Ray, Gilbert was going to be the team's ace for 2022. He displayed impressive command last year, highlighted by a 2.11 BB/9 mark, but he also posted a 9.65 K/9 mark as well. Sure, his 4.68 ERA is higher than what most would like, but his 4.09 xERA, 3.73 FIP, and 4.19 xFIP indicate better things lie ahead with some better luck. The 24-year-old boasts impressive command and his 25.4 percent strikeout rate last year should be considered his floor for years to come. He'll need to get some run support, but his underlying metrics around his ERA indicate that he will be better in 2022. He might not get a full workload this season, but with 160-165 innings of work, he should be a solid fantasy arm this year. The 24-year-old is a nice upside arm to target in drafts.
