2022 Player Outlook
Thompson posted a 3-7 record with a 3.24 ERA (3.69 FIP) and 1.21 WHIP last year. He was later traded to Pittsburgh, and the Pirates are hoping that they can unleash the 6'7" right-hander. Tyler Glasnow, another tall, lengthy right-hander thrived once he left Pittsburgh, so hopefully the same thing doesn't happen with Thompson where he doesn't reach his full potential in Pittsburgh. Listen, wins are going to be tough to come by, and he has some command issues, but he is a ground ball pitcher and he posted a 7.92 K/9 last season. He should be in line for a career-high workload this year, and could enter prime streaming territory in shallower leagues as the year goes on.
