2022 Player Outlook
Over 104.1 innings of work last season Hearn posted a 6-6 record with a 4.66 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 20.9 percent strikeout rate and a 9.5 percent walk rate. For his career, he has a 10.9 percent walk rate, which will need to drastically improve, or he could do some damage to your team's ratios. He suffered a noticeable drop in his strikeout rate compared to 2020, but there's optimism for a rebound in 2022, as his fastball and slider each put up a whiff rate north of 23 percent. However, the other pitches were lagging behind a bit, and he's been in the 34th and 25th percentile in whiff rate over the last two seasons. Hearn does a great job keeping the ball on the ground, but from a fantasy perspective, you'd love to see more strikeouts on his ledger. An elevated walk rate might put him in some tough spots, and in 2021, he generated a chase rate in the sixth percentile. He'll likely put forth an ERA in the mid-to-upper 4's this season, and if the strikeouts don't pick up a bit, he'll be relegated to streaming status.
