2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Heading to Coors is terrifying for a pitcher and their fantasy value, and while I think Dakota Hudson will feel some of those effects, home runs have never been a big issue for him. He’s a ground ball machine and has only allowed a fly ball rate north of 30 percent one time (2020) in his entire career. You can’t hit home runs on the ground! He’s a sinker-slider guy, and his fastball even does a solid job inducing ground balls, likely because he keeps it in the lower third of the zone. His already low strikeout rate continues to dwindle, and even though last year's 8.6 percent swinging strike rate was his highest in the past few seasons, he's a pitch-to-contact guy who allows a ton of contact overall. 

2024 Outlook: All in all, while Hudson likely eats some innings for the Rockies, fantasy managers need to be worried about Hudson in 2024, because at the end of the day, he's a pitch-to-contact right-hander who doesn't miss bats pitching in the game's best offensive environment. Easy fade.
