2023 Player Outlook

Matt Manning, Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal, and Alex Faedo – the Tigers' core of young pitchers – all came through the farm system together. Manning is the only one whose career hasn’t been interrupted by major surgery and the Tigers are leaning on the young right-hander to take the next step in his career. Tendonitis ended his 2022 season, but he reportedly had a normal off-season routine, and the Tigers are counting on Manning to take that next step. When Manning was healthy, he was effective last year, and his 3.43 ERA was the lowest of any Tiger with at least 10 starts last year. With quality starts in five of his final nine outings and a 2.53 strikeout-to-walk ratio (3rd best among Tigers starters), Manning comes into the spring with a burst of confidence.
