2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: The one-time would-be closer for Washington missed nearly the entire 2023 season with an injury. The last time he was on the mound, back in 2022, Rainey had 12 each of saves and holds in 29 games and a good 10.8 K/9 with 3.30 ERA.

2024 Outlook: He’s expected to be back on the mound for much of the 2024 season in Washington. It would be surprising if he got more than a couple of saves as the Nationals won’t likely put him in too many high-leverage situations. Rainey should be in a spot to get 10-14 holds but control might lead him to have some unsightly walk rates and ratios despite good strikeout numbers.
