2024 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Prior to 2023, Quantrill was an interesting low-end fantasy option, as he posted a 3.16 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 336 IP between the 2021-2022 seasons. His FIP was above 4.00 in each of those two seasons, and in 2023, the wheels came of the tracks a bit, as he posted a 5.24 ERA (4.79 FIP) and 1.46 WHIP. He allowed a higher barrel rate and hard-hit rate than any previous season, and an already low whiff rate got worse.

2024 Outlook: The biggest knock on Quantrill from a fantasy perspective is that he doesn't generate strikeouts, and the past two seasons, he's allowed a contact rate of at least 83 percent. Now, he goes to Colorado, and pitch-to-contact guys can have issues here. He does have a 42.5 percent ground ball rate for his career, so that could help a bit, but his margin for error is miniscule in Coors Field. Quantrill should provide fantasy managers with innings this year, as his spot in the rotation is secure, but the quality of those innings is another conversation, as he'll post another low strikeout rate and maybe even an ERA over five for the entire season.
