2023 Player Outlook

Lauer delivered for Milwaukee in 2022, following up on a quality 2021 season. Last season, he logged a career-high 158.2 innings of work, posting a 3.69 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 23.8 percent strikeout rate, and an 11-7 record. He had an elbow issue later in the season, but seeing as he returned and posted a 1.32 ERA and 12.51 K/9 over his final three starts, shouldn’t have fantasy managers very concerned for 2023. His fastball usage is trending down year over year, and I’d expect that trend to continue, which should allow it to be more effective when used. Lauer will ride his secondary offerings yet again in 2023, and while he doesn’t do one, particular thing supremely, he does a lot of good things when on the mound. He’s a reliable mid-rotation arm in reality and is a fine option for the back end of your fantasy team’s rotation.
