2022 Player Outlook
Lauer posted a 3.19 ERA across 118.2 innings last season with a solid 1.14 WHIP. His 3.90 xERA indicates he might have been a bit lucky, but he'll be looking to build off his success in the second half of his 2021 season. Over his final 62.1 innings of work, he posted a 2.60 ERA and 0.96 WHIP, not to mention a 63:17 K/BB ratio. Lauer's second half sparks optimism for the 2022 season, but it's hard to ignore some of the batted ball metrics. He allows hard contact and fly balls, which typically isn't a recipe for success. To his credit, he did enjoy nice jumps in his percentile rankings in his whiff rate and strikeout rate, so his fantasy value might largely be dictated by if a further jump in strikeouts can offset a likely increase in his ERA.
