2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Nelson Velazquez, who was traded midway through the season in 2023 from the Cubs to the Royals, did only one thing when he actually played- he crushed the ball. Over the course of a 162-game season Velazquez would have hit 62 home runs as the right-handed slugger hit 17 bombs in 53 games with an overall slash line of .235/.302/.586. His strikeout rate was high (28.5%), and Velazquez carried a single digit walk rate at 8.9% but also a hard-hit rate of 49% and .575% xSLG.

2024 Outlook: This is a player that may not get on base enough or doesn't play good enough defense to become an above average player, but Velazquez is certainly fun to watch, and at only 24-years old has more than earned a chance to show off more of his power in 2024.
