2022 Player Outlook

After leading the league in HRs in the COVID shortened 2020 season, knee and oblique injuries derailed Voit’s 2021 season. When he was healthy enough to return to action the results were ugly. His .239 BA was the worst of his career, and his 30.7 K rate was also a career worst. Voit also suffered a huge drop off in his contact rate which fell from 74.5 in 2020 to 60.9 last season. After the Yankees resigned Rizzo, it seemed as if Voit was destined for bench duties yet again in New York. However, the trade to San Diego creates a more open path for playing time, whether it be at first base (if Eric Hosmer is traded) or as one of the team's primary DH's. For Voit's fantasy value, this is a nice boost, even if the ball park isn't as lucrative as Yankee Stadium.
