2022 Player Outlook

Lamet has always had upside. That was on full display during the shortened 2020 season. He posted a 2.09 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 69 innings. Then 2021 happened and he was once again dealt a forearm injury that impacted his play. He still posted good strikeout numbers, but he saw his ERA balloon to 4.40 and he only pitched 47 innings. If Nick Martinez struggles in the rotation, there’s room for Lamet to possibly log some starts and get that fifth starter’s spot. Lamet likely isn’t a contender for saves and if San Diego every wanted to go to a six-man rotation he’s a candidate to get some starters. But the outlook on his 2022 season is bleak assuming he can’t stay healthy.
