2022 Player Outlook
Once lauded for his power/speed combo potential, Zimmer has spent most of his career rehabbing a variety of injuries as opposed to honing his mechanics and improving his approach at the plate. The early minor league totals brought us hope for an emerging 20-20 leadoff hitter, but until 2021, his age-29 season, he saw only one year with more than 330 at-bats. That was 2017 where he hit just .241 with eight home runs and 18 stolen bases, not too far off from his .227 average with eight homers and 15 stolen bases he posted last year. Unfortunately, for him and anyone eyeballing him for fantasy, the 35-percent strikeout rate is going to be tough for him to improve at this stage of his career and that, plus his injury history is going to make him nearly impossible to draft.
