2024 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Sewald was dominant with the Mariners to begin the 2023 season, and while his ERA ticked up upon being moved to Arizona, he closed out 13-of-15 save opportunities, despite his walk rate jumping up to 12.5 percent with the club. He allowed more contact during his time with the Diamondbacks, and despite notching six saves in the postseason, he surrendered a 5.40 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. Perhaps a change of scenery just threw him off a bit?

2024 Outlook: His 2024 season with the Diamondbacks should be better, and there's still no legitimate threat to taking save opportunities away from him. He posted a 96th percentile hard hit rate last year, as well as a 95th percentile strikeout rate, so more familiarity with the new club should allow him to return to the dominant version of himself we saw in the beginning of the 2023 season. If he can harness the walks and get the home runs in check in his new park, he'll be an excellent source of strikeouts, and record 30+ saves for a good Arizona team that has gotten better this offseason.
