2022 Player Outlook
Walks (3.77 BB/9) continued to be an issue for Pivetta, and contributed to his slightly above league average WHIP. On the plus side Pivetta’s overall HR/9 rate fell significantly from 2.3 in 2020 to 1.39 last season but unfortunately, it was still above the 1.26 league average. His Statcast hard hit rate dipped a bit but at 40.4 it still remained above the 37.1 league average. Pivetta held opposing batters to a career low .232 BA against him and his curveball was virtually unhittable (.173 BAA). However, unless Pivetta gains better command of his pitches we’re likely to see more of the same high ERA, high WHIP performance from him this season.
