2022 Player Outlook

Stanek was an important piece of the Houston bullpen last year, as he posted a 3.42 ERA (4.15 xERA), 1.21 WHIP, and a 28.6 percent strikeout rate over 68.1 innings of work. His 12.8 percent walk rate is a bit high, but his career mark of 12 percent at least states he wasn't worse than normal, comparatively speaking. Hector Neris will provide some stiff competition to the backup closer role, but to begin the year, one would think Stanek has an inside track to the job. I would rather have Neris in fantasy formats, but Stanek can be valuable in solds leagues, especially if the strikeouts remain right around 30 percent and he posts a whiff rate in the 87th percentile or better for the third straight year (not counting 2020).
