2022 Player Outlook
Moncada's career trajectory was heading upwards until a bought with COVID-19 ruined his 2020 season. He spent much of 2021 trying to get back on-track and while his plate discipline all started heading in the right direction, his power and speed on the bases were both lagging. He was still making strong contact, but a drop in his fly-ball rate coupled with a subsequent spike in his ground-ball rate dulled the possibility of flashing more power. If he can continue to drop his strikeout rate and loft the ball more, we could see a bit more power out of him, but that increase may only take him to the 20-25 HR range as opposed to the 30 we'd like to see. If he can improve in the power area and does go back to swiping double-digit bases, he should remain a top-10 third baseman this year.
