2022 Player Outlook
Merrifield continues to get it done. Not only has he been extremely healthy over the last couple of seasons, but he's been very consistent. If you ignore the 2020 season, in the past three seasons (2018, 2019, 2021), Merrifield has at least 10 home runs, 20 stolen bases and a .277 batting average in each season. In fact, he has double-digit home runs, 40 or more stolen bases and a .277 batting average or better in two of his last three seasons. Merrifield makes a ton of contact and has enough wheels to keep his batting average high each year. Merrifield is an excellent fantasy asset. He provides a quality batting average, racks up stolen bases, and isn't a liability in the power department. His barrel rate dropped a bit in 2021 and he hit more grounders, which likely stole from his home run total a bit, but again, Merrifield gives your team a nice boost in the batting average and stolen base departments. He'll cost you a second or third round pick, depending on league size, but those stolen bases are worth it.
