2022 Player Outlook

Across 131 games for Oakland in 2021, Kemp hit .279 with a .382 OBP, eight home runs, 54 runs scored and eight stolen bases. Kemp was excellent for Oakland in getting on base, as he posted a minuscule 12.8 percent strikeout rate, and a 13.1 percent walk rate. Yes, he had more walks than he had strikeouts. His quality of contact is less than inspiring, but his quantity of contact is perfect near the top of the lineup for the Athletics. The departures of Mark Canha and Starling Marte open the door for Kemp to be a stalwart in the leadoff or number two spot for Kemp in 2022. With how often he gets on base, and doesn't strikeout, it would behoove Oakland to get Kemp right in front of Matt Chapman and Matt Olson. The opportunity should lend itself to Kemp's best year yet, as he has the chance to hit 8-10 home runs with 10+ stolen bases and a .375+ OBP. He's dirt cheap in drafts, and can help offset some earlier draft picks that have elite power but drain your team's average.
