2023 Player Outlook
Berrios continued to be a workhorse in 2022, making 32 starts and throwing 172 innings but statistically, he’s coming off the worst season of his career. His 5.23 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 1.52 HR/9 are his highest since his rookie season. He surrendered the most hits in the AL and opposing batters crushed his four-seam fastball and sinker last season, compiling a combined .333 BAA on those pitches. On a positive note, Berrios’ velocity was near his career norms and his 2.35 BB/9 was well above the league average. Berrios is not a pitcher that you should actively target in preseason drafts, but with his fantasy value at its lowest level in years, if he’s able to put together a modest bounce-back season he can easily outperform his ADP.
